Chris Petersen would be a step up if he can be convinced to come out of retirement.

Honestly, Evan, I cannot. I trust in Martin Jarmond, however. Also, I just want a coach that doesn't make me think that sometimes I could make better play calls and decisions than him..... I'm tired of Kelly for this reason and for his perceived arrogance that must be based upon the past, since there is no reason for it in the present.

the problem is we cannot afford it. People do not realize what Lincoln Riley just did to the head coaching market. Head coaches now command significantly more money, but UCLA's bank account is the same. We are paying Chip 5.6 mil I think. He'd command 8 on the open market. There is a 0% chance we are hiring an elite proven coach.

You donтАЩt know what we can offer, especially if Oregon offers Chip. If we do hire someone new it would need to be a calculated hire. Someone that reflects the UCLA brand. I would go into the SEC look for a defensive minded coach, someone tough, hungry to prove something. A coach that can recruit and develop well. Even with a winning record I donтАЩt feel as if UCLA has momentum. We need a coach that will give us momentum

What we can offer is pretty much public knowledge at this point. We are not backing up a Brinks truck to anyone.
