I need to ask you guys a favor. I got Rose Bowl tickets and wondering if anyone could recommend a hotel to stay in the area that's not too overpriced, but still quality.

Hey Ravenous first congrats to your Utes( my second favorite Pac-12 team. Your best bet is to stay out of Pasadena, maybe over in the San Fernando Valley near universal studios? Or Burbank near. Both still less than a 30 minute drive. Or if you want the commotion of the rose parade and bowl crowd, the 4 seasons Pasadena is nice!
Honestly, find a hotel along the Metro line and just ride in. I used Metro for the first time for the USC game because my new place is right next to a station, and it’s super convenient. Similarly, when LSU came out here, my friend PodKATT from ATVS used Metro for everything and found it worked great.
In OC, Amtrak (and Metrolink - which is the "local") stops at Anaheim ARTIC - which has lots of free parking and is almost never full (unlike Santa Ana and Fullerton stations which can have parking issues). From ARTIC to Union Station on Amtrak is ca. 33 minutes (Santa Ana station is a bit farther/Fullerton station a bit closer) while on Metrolink, its more like 50 mins (more intermediate stops)
whatever you do, make sure you get a hotel as close as possible to the stadium. Do make sure it is in Pasadena. Especially if you are from out of town, might as well get the full experience. Don't plan on booking in an adjacent city and relying on our decrepit public transit to get you to the Rose Bowl. It's bad on normal days, but holy hell if there is an event like the Rose Bowl or a holiday you are screwed big time. Hilton Pasadena and Courtyard Marriot both pretty nice and reasonably priced.
Congrats on the Holiday Bowl.

It’s in Pasadena so all the hotels in Pasadena jack up the price. Try something in Glendale or Dowtown.
I would recommend the Courtyard Marriott or Doubletree in Monrovia a short distance from the Rose Bowl and both right by the 210.

Metro is great. If you drive you need to leave about 4 hours early.
Thanks to everyone for all the advice.
Looking at flight prices I probably will fly into OC and stay there and then catch a taxi to the Amtrak into Union Station and Metro to the game.

Sounds like a good plan. Just allow plenty of time and buy your Amtrak tickets in advance.
Hey, don't miss the Rose Parade. It really is spectacular!
I'll make sure to arrive early for the parade.
Hey stranger! Good to see you. Congrats to your Utes and have a great time in Pasadena!
Can we have Whittingham yet?
As soon as we win our NC.
Well hurry up!! lol. But for real, we're all rooting for you guys here.

Ok I'll check prices on those
So minimum room cost for anything in Pasadena is $900 a night. $700 more per night than the place I settled for in OC
Orange County about 2 hours away with traffic depending on which part of the county
Sounds about right! The Rose Parade is spectacular too!
