do we have a good shot at any of the remaining studs? Currently #7 class by one ranking, seems like we could really have a shot at one of the very top classes in the nation if we get one more really great 4 star.
In the mix for 5 stars Jaden Hardy and Nathan Bittle (one of my personal favorite recruits in this class), but are probably running second or third for both. Apparently Hardy and Watson know each other, so let's see if that changes anything. Micawber Etienne, who I really like, as well.
Some people have speculated KJ Simpson would be a nice addition as a lead guard but they haven't offered him yet, may be waiting on Hardy.
Does anyone have any information about the impact this kid may have during his 1 year (probably) with our program. Lots of 5 star recruits are not that impactful because the star system is obviously based in large part on potential. So, do you think this kid will start immediately? Do you think he will be "the guy" as a freshman? Can we expect, or at least reasonably hope, that this kid will really impact the season in a way previous and dones like Lonzo/Leaf/Looney. Or is he going to merely just hold his own, put up decent stats, and move it alone to the NBA the next year.
Way, way too early to determine any of that. But from everything I've seen on this kid he's way closer to a Lonzo or a Leaf from a mentality standpoint, compared to a guy like Wilkes or Hands. He doesn't seem like this is just a pit stop.
I more meant is this kid ready to contribute and lead or is the ranking only based on potential. Even though Lonzo was heads above Leaf and Wilkes, I put them all in this category. We knew right off the bat that they would start and play a leading roll. Other 5 stars, you know right away that they probably will not be fulfilling much of their potential as a freshman. I'm hoping this kid is ready to start and be our option 1 or 1am
I'm much more optimistic about seeing these highly talented kids coming to our program now than I was with the previous coach. Cronin's philosophy as a hard driving defensive minded non-spotlight sort of coach tells me a lot about a kid who is willing to come play for him. Welcome to Westwood, Peyton!
Between Jaylen Clark, Will McClendon, and Watson, Cronin is recruiting a team that's going to straight up suffocate people on defense.

Mick Cronin = two thumbs up so far.
