UCLA had Nick Alioti and should have been undefeated for the season except the defense gave up too much against Miami.
Followed up by that Rose Bowl against Wisconsin, giving up 343 yds rushing ...yeesh. And we really haven't been a great team since.

Nick Alioti can never be forgiven for 1998. If Rocky Long (DC in 1997) hadn't left to become Head Coach at New Mexico, we win the National Title.
