Sick to my stomach right now....and not due to illness. I feel awful for our players who had waited 5 years to get to another bowl game...and for NC State and fans who travelled across the country....heartbreaking.

no kidding. If it's really just a matter of guys testing out of the protocols (which will happen eventually), I don't understand why they don't try to salvage this and delay the game a day or two or 3. They didn't even try. If the numbers are going up tomorrow and the next day, fine. Cancel it. But play the game if you can.

and on that note, i've seen schools pull out of bowls because not enough "scholarship" players available. Play the walk ons!

This year is perfect intersection of players "opting out" (don't get me started on that BS) and protocols.

not a lot of science behind this

Even if the City is cool with the logistics of doing that on no notice especially with all the parking & extra security, etc required in the Gaslamp for NYE, TV might play a role in that scenario - it's a fox game so not so sure they have a window for a primetime broadcast on either fox or fs1 on Thursday or New Years Eve... TV often does wag the dog

this is true. but the Holiday Bowl isn't a small event. all the games tomorrow are ESPN. same with the 30th. It just seems to me that the ratings from this game no matter where they put it would have been worth it. By the way, if Fox couldn't accommodate, why not pay them to let another network do it. Icing on the cake for Fox.

You would think some thought would have been given to contingency plans instead of play or cancel. Delaying would have been 1st choice, but Clio 98 does bring up valid points on TV, City, Venue, etc.....nobody wins here.

one more thought. And this is probably the conference's fault or NCAA. They should have foreseen this possibility and created exemptions where, if necessary, redshirts could play without burning the redshirt year. Sort of like a taxi squad. Hopefully covid is gone by next season, but the NCAA should seriously consider extra scholarships to allow for expanded rosters so that when the entire offensive line comes down with covid the day before a bowl game, there are enough guys available to step in.
