You can tell Chesney really studied UCLA and has a plan for how to turn things around. There's an understanding of things that need to change that shows he did his homework, like holding open practices and engaging with the community.
Honestly, really good presser all the way around.
People like to rag on Frenk because he committed the cardinal sin of not firing Jarmond right away, but it's clear the guy understands athletics and how important they can be to a university. UCLA feels like it's in a better position athletically because he's in the chancellor position rather than a career academic like Block, and the fact that he was even at the introduction and had a speaking role speaks volumes to his involvement going forward.
Jarmond...was fine. My initial read is that Block hamstrung the program to an excessive degree, and there's a bit of interest from Frenk on whether Jarmond can do the job with actual university support. In either case, the amount of highlighting Jarmond has gotten regarding his role in the search feels as much like payback from Wasserman for publicly eating shit on his behalf as anything else.
Chesney nailed his parts. For a young guy (relatively, he's still much older than me), he showed off a lot of thought and care in his answers. You can understand why the search committee became enamored with him early in the process, as he's not giving typical tough-guy football answers, but responses that showed he is considering the whole of the student-athlete experience and how to create sustainable success.
