UCLA Softball Faces Oregon to Open WCWS
The Bruin softball team begins their Quest for 125 this evening in Oklahoma City.

On Sunday, the UCLA softball continued the surge that started with their dramatic come-from-behind, season-saving win on Saturday as the Bruins shut out the South Carolina Gamecocks, 5-0.
The win propelled the Bruins into the Women’s College World Series and, tonight, UCLA will play the Oregon Ducks in Game 4 of the WCWS at 6:30 pm PT.
Last Time Out
After playing a game where the Bruins were down to the potential final out of their season, there was no drama to be had in Sunday’s deciding game against South Carolina.
When Sunday’s game started, the Bruins remained hot from Saturday’s final frame. Centerfielder Jessica Clements got the game started with single up the middle. Savannah Pola followed with a bunt for a base hit that gave the Bruins runners on first and second with no outs when Jordan Woolery came to the plate.
That’s when Saturday’s hero did it again.
This time, she singled to center to score Clements as UCLA took a 1-0 lead.
While the Bruins would add an insurance run in the fifth and three more in the seventh, that first run would be all that they needed as sophomore Kaitlyn Terry threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings for the win and Taylor Tinsley came in for the final inning and a third to pick up the save.
Oregon Ducks
Since 1985, UCLA leads the all-time series versus Oregon, 97-33.
Unfortunately, the Ducks won the regular-season series by taking two of three games in Eugene in April. The teams did not play in Westwood this season.
Freshman RHP Addisen Fisher, a native of Bend, Ore., pitched a complete-game shutout in an 8-0 run-rule drubbing on April 19 to even the series in front of a sold-out crowd in her return to her home state.
While the Ducks won the Big Ten regular season title to earn the top seed in the conference softball tournament, Oregon was shut out by Michigan, 5-0, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten softball tournament.
Tonight’s game will be just the second time UCLA and Oregon have met at the Women's College World Series and the fifth time in all of postseason play. UCLA leads the postseason series, 4-1. The last time they met in the WCWS, the Bruins defeated the Ducks, 7-1, on May 28, 2015 in their WCWS opener. Ally Carda turned in a complete-game performance with three strikeouts to earn the victory.
The Ducks got to the WCWS by sweeping Liberty last weekend in the Super Regionals. After Oregon won the first game 3-2, the Ducks crushed the Flames, 13-1, to advance to the WCWS.
The weekend before, Oregon won the Eugene Regional the hard way. After beating Weber State in their first game, the Ducks were crushed by Stanford, 14-1. That sent Oregon to the Elimination Bracket where they defeated Weber State again. It set up a rematch with Stanford. This time, the Ducks won, 15-5, to set up a deciding game which Oregon won 10-7.
