Spaulding Report: UCLA Football Week One Media Interviews
After sharing Monday's interviews earlier this week, we've gathered the rest of the coach and player interviews for you in one place ahead of tonight's season opener.
Of course, the big news coming out of practice this week was that UCLA head coach Chip Kelly named Ethan Garbers as the Bruins’ starting quarterback for tonight’s game against Coastal Carolina.
But Monday’s interviews weren’t the only media sessions this week. Let’s take a look at what else has been getting said at this week’s UCLA football media sessions. I’m just going to share the rest of these here all in one place to make it easy for you, our readers, to watch them if you haven’t already. All the videos in this article are courtesy of UCLA Athletics on YouTube.
We’ll start by rewinding to Sunday when Darius Muasau and Kam Brown actually met with the media on Sunday. So, let’s start with those guys. Muasau raised the expectations for the defense by saying that the Bruin defense “wants to be the best defense in the country.”
Then, on Tuesday, transfer running back Carson Steele and starting center Duke Clemens. Steele, an Indiana native who has a pet alligator back home named Crocky-J, spoke about his family’s plans for coming to Saturday’s game along with learning the Bruins playbook and the team’s quarterback competition. Clemens spoke about the apparent change in attitude that’s been seen from head coach Chip Kelly along with how he’s taken freshman quarterback Dante Moore under his wing.
Today, we’ll wrap up with Chip Kelly’s presser from Wednesday. Kelly addressed a lot of questions with respect to the depth chart that was released. You can find a copy of that in our How to Watch article. Specifically, he was asked about Bruno Fina and Josh Carlin starting over some of the transfers who came in this year as well as the kicker competition. Unfortunately, since his last interview was Wednesday, Kelly indicated that some of their final decisions hadn’t been made yet.
That wraps up this week’s media interviews. UCLA opens the 2023 season when the Bruins host Coastal Carolina tonight at the Rose Bowl starting at 7:30 pm PT.
Go Bruins!!!
