Except for Charbonet, this was a complete team loss. Bad special teams. Inconsistent and uninspired offensive efforts, and another total meltdown on defense. Hey D, when you have the QB on there run, you have to cover receivers for the entire play.
Bruins screwed themselves last night. Play like that against SC and it will be fugly and the bell will be painted red. I'm not even that upset by the loss. Just kind of expect it in the culture of "we sometimes play football while going $100M in the hole." There rose bowl is empty because of the product on the field. The entire night felt like the team going through there motions and couldnt be bothered to compete. That's not a team I can cheer for. Bruins football, go watch some Bruins basketball... Learn how to work.
You think it's bad now. Wait until next year, it will be much worse. UCLA is on track to lose most of their senior "talent" and as usual Kelly can't recruit so he may not even be able to field a team. He is counting on the portal, but word has it no one wants to play for him, can't say I blame them. I can't believe the Big Ten wants them, but I really don't think they do, they want SC and UCLA was part of the price they had to pay to get them. UCLA loses 7-8 games next season, including their first game to a very good Coastal Carolina program, again at home of course. Kelly can lose anywhere, it really doesn't matter to him, the school is stupid enough to pay premium prices for his crap. You will never win with this coach or the football culture that exists at that school. Attendance is now low enough that it cannot sustain support for the program, and it will only get worse, they are hemoraging cash, hence they need that Big-10 deal and even the UC Regents (a worthless body) realize it. They schedule presumably Division II no-names in non-conf so Kelly can say "Look, I'm winning", when in reality, he is losing and getting worse. This coaching staff should have been fired long ago but definitely should have been dismissed after that game last night (if you could even call it a game, I'd say Arizona was scrimmaging their third team). It should have been unacceptable. But instead, they still attempt to sell the suckers tickets "at discounts" to at least have someone sit in the Rose Bowl. They are even desperate to sell SC tickets, which should have been easy given their PREVIOUS record and PREVIOUS standing in the Conference, now it will be almost impossible. No one likes a LOSER, especially a very bad performing loser.
Astoundingly, the idiot fooled none other than Troy Aikman and Bob Myers, of all the illustrious Bruin alums involved in assisting the hapless Guerrero closed the deal. Think about that.
The usc game is honestly the big indicator of this being a successful season or not.
I think if oregon beats utah then ucla also still has a shot at the conference championship if they beat usc, cus theyd have wins over washington utah and usc at that point, as long as utah gets to two conference losses.
I admire your optimism and perhaps some wishful thinking in there as well. They probably will beat SC, then lose to Cal. No but seriously, last night's game is something that sticks to a team for quite a while. I'm not trying to trash Arizona, they played a good game and an inspired game, but they are a very poor football team and had no business even being on the same field. But here comes Chip and the gang fresh off reading more of their press clippings of their success story. Judging by last night's performance, I honestly don't think they will win another game. They will end up 8-5 and Chip will crow that he beat Washington & Utah and it was a great success. UCLA should not have a football program; the school is simply not fit for one and since the final defeat of an on-campus stadium proposal back in the 1960's, they should have realized this and packed it in back then. They should have seen there is no stomach for the program at the school. The neighbors didn't want the extra traffic! lol What a joke. Today you can't get two feet into Westwood without hitting massive traffic, same goes for back then. Anyway, this is typical and yet another example of UCLA getting sold a bill of goods from an overrated over-the-hill coach who has brought nothing but losing to Westwood. Now the good news! Yes, I'm going to say it... "It's time for UCLA Basketball!" The common phrase everyone uses this time of year, how sad.
..well, reaching back into the dusty archives of my codger brain, I pray this loss is like the occasional late season pothole such as Prothro (v Washington in his 9-1 1966 season) or Donahue (v Washington State toppling us out of #1 consideration) suffered and NOT the troubled Bob Toledo loss to Miami that began the descent into the Maelstrom that, arguably, could be traced back as the roots of these decades of football mediocrity we languish in presently.
Kelly is a con artist in football coaching. I am saying it with valid reasons. He achieved success in Oregon on the strength of his predecessor's recruits. I remember one of you alluded to it too. His brief, unremarkable stint in NFL does not tarnish one bit his Oregon glories because according to records, few college coaches survive well in NFL. The latest spectacular flameout being Urban Meyer. That one shining moment in Oregon continues to enamor college athletic officials enough, so much so that those from UCLA, tormented by the Mora malaise, decided to muster every resource, connection to sign Chip Kelly. Florida was then in the running too. In hindsight, they lucked out by leaving this high stake race to sigh Kelly while UCLA pulled out all the stops, including a prohibitively expensive buyout clause offer, to bring home not a real tasty bacon but a beyond meat one with questionable value. LOL !!!
So let's remember history enough to make sure it does not happen again. Let's look to the future.
Ya gotta understand that all we codgers have is our memories and a warm afternoon in the sun at the old Bruins' home, gumming our Zwieback, and praying to God we don't soil ourselves when the particularly attractive nurse is on duty.
But, yes, this is a cakewalk season and, if The Chipster wanted to earn his salt, he would have greased all the patsies on the sched. Not gonna be good if he blows it to the Trogies next Saturday.
Ah yes, even in this era you still have to play some defense. The mediocre D finally comes home to roost on a night when the offense can't stay in gear. I'm not sure what was funnier, our D-line and backers chasing de Laura or our db's chasing their wide receivers. There will probably be a lot more red in the Bowl this week than blue.
19.5-point favorites at home against Arizona--LOL. The real Chip Kelly-led Bruins showed up instead. DTR and the offense had a bad night (that doomed them), their defense was porous as usual, and the kicking team flubbed. Good teams improve over the course of the season, but this one abruptly regressed. Give credit to a better coached Arizona team that was playing inspired, upset-driven football on the road. After witnessing this embarassing loss, I wouldn't be surprised at all if the Bruins end this season with a 3-game losing streak. Yes, thank goodness for Bruin basketball!
In my mind, Kelly might conceivably put up a good fight this Saturday since Rose Bowl is our home turf. But Lincoln Riley is a big game coach whereas Kelly, by contrast, only emulates being one. Oklahoma traditionally plays a much tougher schedule than UCLA's. Riley yields to no one. My book is closed on Kelly. So I am going against the grain, betting on the Trojans beating us on our home turf. Sorry guys.
Jarmond needs to get us a good one soon. We suffer enough with three consecutive mediocre coaches -Dorell, Neuheisel and Mora - already. Kelly has to be the tail end of this miserable streak.
Chip only cares about two things; Chip & Cash

The basketball team culture is truly inspiring.
It is indeed.
Chip's an idiot.
This comment is like clock work
Yes, and quite accurate I'd say.
LMAO. How many dumb screen passes to nowhere did he call? He's a stubborn idiot.
He got out coached yesterday. But we are 8-2. Suggest you drop the anti-chip sycophantic shtick.
Oh wow. 8-2. So fucking great. Choke job against U of A and you're touting this year's record? What a joke.
Astoundingly, the idiot fooled none other than Troy Aikman and Bob Myers, of all the illustrious Bruin alums involved in assisting the hapless Guerrero closed the deal. Think about that.
I will never forget that salient point.
Myers wasn’t involved in the coaching search for football. That was Troy and Casey Wasserman. Myers was more involved with the basketball search.
Oh dang, I'm glad I punted and chose sleep.
The usc game is honestly the big indicator of this being a successful season or not.

Still, this sucks :(
I admire your optimism and perhaps some wishful thinking in there as well. They probably will beat SC, then lose to Cal. No but seriously, last night's game is something that sticks to a team for quite a while. Are we illusory to think our team is peaking !?!
If they are then they must be peaking in the valley..
I can say it even better. Did we peak prematurely ?
..well, reaching back into the dusty archives of my codger brain, I pray this loss is like the occasional late season pothole such as Prothro (v Washington in his 9-1 1966 season) or Donahue (v Washington State toppling us out of #1 consideration) suffered and NOT the troubled Bob Toledo loss to Miami that began the descent into the Maelstrom that, arguably, could be traced back as the roots of these decades of football mediocrity we languish in presently.
*sigh*
If we could only re-animate Tommy and Red!
Don't harken back to those good old days. Let's look forward to the future beyond Chip Kelly.
Yes, and let's hope that future begins very soon.
Hey football, thanks for keeping it entertaining until football season. Unfortunately, I am quite sure that’s all you will ever be. See you next year!
Just as we were getting our hopes up, Lucy pulled the football again.

Let me help out Dimitri in advance, Charbonet - A-, all the rest F.
