Last week against Arizona, Felton rushed 32 times for 206 yards. He had 4 catches for 26 yards and appeared to strain a hamstring. Tonight he rushed 10 times for 41 yards and had 1 catch for 8 yards. Brittain Brown picked up the slack in the first half before possibly getting dinged up. DTR was involved direct on about 2/3 of the offensive plays. He made several key plays and less bad decisions in this game. The result was a nice win.
What a game, and what a weird game. The Bruins were great. Then they were awful. Then they were great again near the end. And then they weren't quite awful enough at the very end.
Basically, it was your normal U.C.L.A. performance, and actually a lot like the Colorado and Oregon games. It's the kind of inconsistent Jeckyl and Hyde performance on both sides of the ball that leaves the outcome dependent on things like coaching adjustments and penalties and turnovers and injuries. Luckily, the Bruins won out in most of those areas tonight. If ASU doesn't negate scores with penalties, or if ASU doesn't turn the ball over in the red zone and the end zone, or if Hurt doesn't make that snag in front of the ASU DB who had the easy INT all lined up, or if Felton doesn't gut it out and come back for the final winning drive...
I'd love for our Bruins to be the kind of team that doesn't need all the ifs to go our way to beat good teams, but that's who we are. Consistent and dominant teams never let it come down to the ifs. We lost the ifs against 2 good teams in CU and Oregon and got 2 Ls. We won the ifs against 1 good team tonight and got the W. Cal and the standard don't count because they are just crappy and it didn't matter. That puts us at 3-2, with 1 more good team to play.
Here's to the majority of the ifs going our way again next week.
UCLA beat the two worst teams in the Pac12 and one decent team which had not played football in a month due to COVID-19. Seems like they lucked out. They really need to pound Cheat On SC next week and get a signature win.
Totally agree. Beat $c and we're 4-2 (and could have been 6-0) and maybe things are finally going the right way. Ending at .500 after giving away 2 wins and losing to those a-holes leaves a very very different taste. We gotta beat clown college.
Seriously, Chip needs to get canned. The offensive play calling for most of the 2nd half was garbage. And benching Felton for most of the game was a dunderhead move. Chip likes to believe he's smarter than everyone else, but his stupid ass mind blowing decisions contradict his belief.
Chip’s not getting canned with the Athletic Department drowning in red ink. The PAC-12 sucks this year. Not sure how much of it has to fo with the pandemic, but it’s bad.
I agree with Army. Short of going 1-5 or worse and getting embarrassed while doing so, it was going to be really hard to get rid of Chip this year. Factor in the lost revenue with no fans and a half-assed season, I don't see how U.C.L.A. would be able to justify it.
And beyond getting rid of Chip, who do you hire when you are cash strapped. It’s hardly an ideal situation to rebuild a program under a new coach. I’m pulling for Chip to get his mojo back, because I think it’s the quickest way back to relevance, based upon the current circumstances.
Army, that would be the best, if Chip could get his "mojo" back. The lackluster recruiting, his arrogance, and his record aren't doing him any favors. Chip got hired to win big. That needs to happen soon.
I think, from the beginning, there’s been a disconnect between fan expectations and Chip Kelly’s plans. As fans, we were anticipating Oregon Chip. Chip chose UCLA over Florida. I think he was looking to rebuild a program that didn’t have a lot of expectations. He wanted, and got, almost total control. He may have thought that the fanbase would be more patient. Perhaps we would be more patient had the first two years just been mediocre as opposed to bad. We need to recruit a few difference makers. Offensively, we move the ball well when we play quickly. Our defense is much improved. We are capable of beating SC. Let’s get it done.
Army, I agree about the defense. It went from horrid to decent. I think a lot of that has to do with Norwood. Last week, Chip tried to give Azzinaro the credit, LOL. Beating SC would take away some of the BBS-Battered Bruin Syndrome that I have suffered the last few years with football.
I hate to say it but I really think they need to start chase griffin against usc. There were too many moments when DTR pulled the ball on a run option, backs way too far out of the pocket and starts scrambling, or just makes some really dumb throws. I mean what is it? Does he not trust his rb to make the play? Does he have to go to hero ball everytime? If he just played like a qb2 where you're told to throw it away after you get through your pass progression and you hand the ball off no matter what on a run play, he would actually be really good, because his run game can be electric, but only when they don't expect him to run all the time. Dtr plays like he's the best player on the team, but felton is their best weapon hands down.

3-2 now.....would be nice if the Bruins can ruin the Trojans next weekend.

Beat *$c! Go Bruins!

Army, I know.....just wishful thinking on my part. And yeah, the Pac12 is a garbage heap this season.
