OK, we were well ahead when the scrubs came in. It's good they got some time against a not-so-bad opponent. Now they have film to watch showing how they didn't work the called play correctly. These opportunities don't come, often. 2-0 Go Bruins!
A really nice scrimmage. Not the most exciting game to watch, but a good chance to see the 2nd and 3rd string develop. Also really cool that Alabama State brought their awesome marching band out.
Agree that it is stupid. At least next week South Alabama is an FBS school so competition should be higher? The Sun Belt actually upset 2 big name schools this week (3 if you count Nebraska), so who knows.
For UCLA at least, it is "less intentional" to play an FCS school since we had to scramble to find teams to play when Michigan canceled their games against us (this year and next - apparently we play NC Central in 2023). I hope our AD doesn't have any plans to schedule any more FCS schools.
But this happens all the time in college football unfortunately. See Utah (73-7 over Southern Utah), Washington (52-6 over Portland St), Oregon (70-14 over Eastern Washington), etc. Power 5 schools should only play other Power 5 schools, or at least no FCS schools. I could care less about historic HBCU bands.
If you have to schedule an FCS school in an emergency, an HBCU school makes sense for UCLA, given our history with Jackie Robinson, Arthur Ashe and others. The band is the icing on the cake.
Scott Frost just lost to Georgia Southern at home. Honestly thought he was a much better coach than that. Other upsets today include Wazzu defeating Wisconsin, Appalachian St. defeating Texas A&M, and (my favorite!) Marshall defeating Notre Dame in front of touchdown Jesus. Also, while I don't consider this much of an upset, Kentucky defeated Florida at the Swamp. Oh! somehow-ranked Houston, after squeaking out a W against U. Texas San Antonio, lost to Texas Tech, so yeah, bye-bye ranking. Finally, #1 ranked Alabama barely defeated a Texas team playing with a backup QB for 3 quarters, exposing their deficient pass D.
Altogether, it's been a really fun day of football :-)
Would we want Frost as an OC? I feel dirty asking that, but he does have a good offensive mind. Probably has zero respect among players across the country though.
Speaking of Nebraska…shout out to Adrian Martinez and K-State for thumping Missouri, and Kansas for a Big win against West Virginia!
There are a couple SEC teams that would have lost if the opposing teams QBs didn’t get injured.
BYU did indeed win in overtime. When their kicker missed the fairly easy FG at the end of the 4th quarter, I though they might lose in OT. The devastating looks on the BYU fans' faces. Oh my! They handled Baylor in the second OT. It was a late night but a fun night for me. In addition OSU pulled the victory over Fresno State in the last seconds of the game. It was nearly midnight but Arizona was losing in the 4th to Mike Leach and Mississippi State.
On second thought, it turned out pretty good. A lot of those kids, this will be the last time they play organized football, so good job coaches on both teams getting everyone in. I still remember my last game.
I think Alabama State played 3 or 4 QBs as well, giving them an opportunity to play on the Rose Bowl field. It was like a friendly in soccer.
Any chance Yankoff turns out to be a real threat? I didn’t really see that coming.
Yes, but no need to show it yesterday.
It's about time, period.

This game was the stupidest idea in the history of college football. What’s the point? Next week looks like more of the same.

I did not realize it was because Michigan canceled…of course they would have made a lot more sense!

Nebraska just fired Scott Frost, so hmm... maybe we start thinking about Frost as OC?
Anything could happen...
Thought it was a fun thought that E2148 brought up, so played with it. It was more of a rhetorical question, not a serious one.
Aaaaaaaand BYU just beat Baylor. Guess we’ve got some madness after all…
Hmmmm. I watched the game. I saw BYU beat Baylor in double overtime.....
