Meanwhile in Gonzaga’s current game, Central Michigan is playing as careless as ucla did which will not bode well for them. It’s like they forgot they were playing the top-ranked team in the country.
Biggest question, among many, is who can defend Holmgren when he steps out to shoot mid range or the three? Cody would have been the best hope but he is not going to play. Bruins under Cronin peak at the end of the season, which is good, but does not bode well for this early match up with the Zags. Juzang is certainly not back to his Tournament form of last year.
I know that top flight teams need some "cupcakes" as practice, but I think the largest problem was simply "disinterest". In the first 6 games this year, four are "no contest" and two are "top 10 scary" ... A game or two of "in between" would be ideal from a focus POV. I think some of those are coming up. Games we should win, but could reasonably lose.
They won't play tonight like they did last night. And it was great to see Peyton Watson match some scoring to his defense. His reach and timing are mesmerizing. I call him Spiderman. Don't know if he would like that name, but it seems to fit.
UCLA Caught Looking Ahead, Still Beat Bellarmine 75-62
Cronin not happy in his postgame comments:
Reporter: "Are you ready for the Gonzaga game?"
Cronin: "No. Absolutely not."

The rear view mirror game. Over. Soon forgotten.
Trash game.

Go Bruins!

We came out of this game still healthy, so it has zero portent or meaning for tonight's game. Nothing to see here-- move on...
