Thanks Joe, now I feel better.

Hey, does the Lainer family get some kind of a refund for their donation?

SEAUCLAn's avatar

He's someone else's problem now.

Evan's avatar

watch him with a natty with OSU

BB88's avatar

Sure Evan, we all know your love affair with the Chipster (OG).

I’d like to know how many MOW donations come in after Kelly’s departure. Could be a big haul…word was there were some potential donors who were holding out until he was gone. I guess we will find out if it’s true. I think this is the first time MJ has ever included a link to MOW. Correct me if I am wrong, please.

Glad he's excited SMH...

Prof. Harold Hill can take his shtick to the next unsuspecting River City.

Thanks, Jarmond, for creating this disaster. Please feel free to follow Chip out the same exit door.

Henry Tse's avatar

Yeap !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he is man enough, he should also follow up the announcement with a brief statement accepting blame that the extension was his misjudgement.

Martin ("Read the Room") Guerrero needs new eyeglasses!

fruithi's avatar

We should not trust Martin with the new hire. This guy is way over his head. A good administrator ALWAYS has a list of qualified replacements if/when employees choose to move on. Jarmond should have been reaching out weeks ago for a replacement when Chip was looking for new employment. Unfortunately me thinks this did not happen. Hope I am wrong. Is it possible Jarmond is as lazy as Chip?

Tamara's avatar

Ahhh to be a fly on the wall in the office of Jarmond Jelly 2.0...

Empty donut boxes strewn all over his desk. Empty stares into the abyss. Desperately trying to teach himself to read. Unanswered calls to Blockhead. Crying with Wasserman. Aikman offering a shoulder. Rinse. Wash. Repeat.

It's gonna be something to see what happens in this next few weeks...

There are coaches out there in hidden places that could potentially be homerun hires for someone who is willing to research and dig and find the hidden gems.

But Jelly 2.0 is held by the tight strings of Blockhead and unless some big influencers apply pressure and literally do the work for JJ, we will likely strike out.

With all that said, I am overflowing with joy that Chipster Alfraud is gone!

SEAUCLAn's avatar

"what happens in this next few weeks"

Problems are that the Bruins must move quickly, and I doubt the Search Committee has the brain power "to research and dig and find the hidden gems."

Tamara's avatar

After I wrote the above, I read the BSPN story and Jarmond Jelly 2.0 promised the players a hire in 96 hours - I would say he's scared about the open transfer portal and losing half or more of the team. JJ 2.0

was emphatic about the 96 hour hire being permanent. This has all the makings of a disaster.

fruithi's avatar

Search Committee should have commenced in November, 2023.

Evan's avatar

And Jarmond is at fault, how?

Evan's avatar

let's go....if it's so obvious say it

UrMyBoyBlue's avatar

We may have to invoke the 25th Amendment on you

gbruin's avatar

Stop being so obtuse. Please. We don't have time for this.

BigB88's avatar

You are right. There is no time to defend the indefensible.

JF88's avatar

The last and final classless act by the OG . . . running away like a self-centered child. Maybe he did feel the threat of Jarmond imminently firing him over the past few weeks, but even if that's the case, then "Hey Martin!! You're like THREE MONTHS TOO LATE!!!".

So, Great job Chip and Martin, in leaving us in a shambles. Well done.

(I'm a 15 year season ticket holder)

UCLA4EVER's avatar

Jarmond's statement reads in part "I want to sincerely thank Chip for his service to UCLA Football and our student-athletes across the past six seasons and wish the best to him and Jill moving forward." He forgot to thank him for leaving the program in an absolute mess including chasing away recruits (and possibly more transfers out) along with one of the lowest recruiting classes (including transfers) in the nation).

SEAUCLAn's avatar

Kelly's presence created a vacuum vis a vis Lynn. May his absence create a plenum. (Thanks, Google word search!)

What a load of BS in that release! Thanks, Joe!

Jarmond Jelly 2.0, carrying the torch for Jelly 1.0

Can Michigan AD work overtime and mentor our AD ? We can share our revenues with

him.

Tamara's avatar

I like youe thinking!

Henry Tse's avatar

Thanks my dear Bruin comrade, LOL ! If only I can make my fantasy comes true, right ?

fruithi's avatar

Fricken awesomely stated! BINGO.

Bruin4ever's avatar

Wait till Chip Alford releases his own BS. Hope he's taking the guy wearing the "Diarrhea" sweatshirt with him to OSU.

BB88's avatar

Not sure it would even be considered BS. I think Jelly 2.0 has a lot of guts. It takes that to come out with a statement like this. Actually, knowing you have probably screwed your football program and the University as a whole for the next 5 years, then thanking your partner who helped you do it!

Henry Tse's avatar

Happy days are here again ! Yes, I do mean it not because I am unaware that our football program, left in shambles and smouldering ruins because of Kelly, would somehow resurrect itself overnight. Whoever comes in charge will go through some tough times, even if Nick Saban un-retires to come coach at UCLA. But at least we will see our football program gradually steadies itself and compete under normal circumstances again, win or lose. No more bull**** excuses like players require gourmet food for nutrients and strengths etc Remember this one, guys ??

This is not the last we've seen of him:

35-34. What a legend.

Clio 98's avatar

In an odd sort of way, this could be a best case scenario - hear me out here: Chip gone (check), some $ saved (check), late enough that no one expensive or seen as a long-term solution is available so the hire will be someone who can either prove themselves (positive) or be easier to jettison with little to no payout or repercussions about "irrational fan bases" if it doesn't work out as the B1G $$$ kicks in and ambitious coaches in the G5 and Middle2 (Big 12 & ACC) look to jump into our then open Power2 job in a great recruiting area...

gbruin's avatar

You make a good point. We do have the unfortunate "benefit" of being so deep in a hole that we have little to lose in the short term. If things continue to suck, we really can't be much worse off.

Clio 98's avatar

I've posted in other discussions and have an even stronger sense now that Jarmond's been constrained by Block and his impending retirement from action on a micro-level department decision to fire/raise buy-out money for Chip until a new Chancellor is hired - if so, I can understand that, at this point in his career, he's not really in a "then I'll resign on principal" position and has been sent out to put lipstick on the pig - how many times have we all had to be diplomatic in a work situation when our "inner voices" really didn't wanna be?! :-) Chip saw the writing on the wall (and could be sick of what leading a college program has become over the last 5-odd years too), and threw himself at every open job he could before he'd get fired after the 24 season. Obviously, we'll see going forward but if one is inclined to be generous about that possible scenario, Jarmond has used up any and all of his passes.

UCLA4EVER's avatar

Do not have much faith that Jarmond & Co can find a coach in our circumstances that can make a silk purse oot of a sow's ear (named Kelly)

fruithi's avatar

I have no idea who to thank for this quote, but I had a mentor years ago that would remind me "there are decades when nothing happens; and weeks when decades happen". We have suddenly moved to the latter!
