LMFAO he obviously didn't write this. Regular people don't use the phrase "diversity, equity, and inclusion." So sad they are making this political. Someone should do a CPRA request to see how much the school is paying a PR firm to write these bs statements. Better yet, how about a CPRA request to see how much money the school is wasting on hiring "experts" to meet with the student athletes. ISN'T THE AD THE EXPERT? He's supposed to be an expert on how to run an athletic department and he's supposed to have a bunch of experts in his department to handle bs like this. Pretty simple solution would be to reprimand the coach if he blew off these girls. Instead we are getting political talking about the latest progressive bs catch phrase "diversity, equity, and inclusion."
Good for Jarmond. His statement is clear and concise and well written. I’m glad this is being addressed, it certainly sounds like our AD is doing the right thing.
This statement from Jarmond seems more like a response to bad press than an actual attempt to address the issues. I agree with Joe, it reads like the team meeting with Jarmond happened today after current players called him out. If the allegations quoted above that the gymnastics coaching staff tolerated racist slurs is true, then I believe the coaching staff should be terminated
Too bad Miss Val had retired from coaching the Bruins--she probably wouldn't have recruited or tolerated any crap from gymnasts like that. Meanwhile, Jarmond has apparently been totally consumed with UCLA football staffing decisions and contract negotiations, not to mention prioritizing a (more orderly) re-opening of Pauley Pavilion to Bruin basketball fans (just in time for the big game against Arizona!). He may not care as much about effectively managing COVID-related impacts (NC State sure won't forget!), or dealing with these complaints from the female gymnasts (which is a sign of team dysfunction that wasn't or still isn't being addressed by the current coaching staff), but at least he isn't hooked on donuts and chianti like his predecessor... :-)
Not sure what the issue is??? Please kindly do some more research into the situation. This reaction by Jarmond was way too little, too late. Coaching staff are responsible for making gymnasts feel safe, not asking them to embrace someone making racist remarks who refuses to apologize. Agree with the above comment, the coaching staff should be terminated.

If doing the right thing means waiting until the student athletes call you out on Twitter, then sure....yes.

Definitely an unresolved dark cloud hanging over UCLA. His statement didn’t resolve anything, in fact he missed entirely.
