After the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament Bracket was announced yesterday, the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament will be announced this afternoon at 4 pm on ESPN.
There are several changes to this year’s tournament. First, the entire tournament will be played in San Antonio, Texas. Second, the days games will be played will now be Sunday through Wednesday. Finally, the selection process will use the NET rankings similar to what is used for the men’s selection process.
Where will the Bruins be seeded?
UCLA is ranked eighth in the NET rankings. So, that would seem to indicate that they should get a number two seed in their region. Given that UCLA has been in the Top Ten most of the season and they were the Pac-12 runner-up, I expect the Bruins to be a pretty high seed.
They should be either a two-seed or, maybe, a three-seed. If they are seeded any lower, they will have gotten a bad deal from the Selection Committee.
The case for the Bruins is pretty simple: They consistently played well and the only games they lost by more than 10 points were two of the three games they played against Stanford, which is likely to be one of the top two seeds in the tournament overall. Of course, the Bruins also won the third game against the Cardinal, which was one of two losses they had all season.
Overall, the Bruins’ tournament resumé looks really good.
Now, it’s just time to find out who UCLA plays in the first round.
