This evening, the UCLA men’s basketball team is in Boulder, Colorado to face the Colorado Buffaloes at 7 pm PT. Tonight’s game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
When these teams met at the beginning of January, the Bruins squeaked by the Buffs, 65-62. And, like Utah on Thursday, UCLA is a different team now than they were then.
Colorado’s starting lineup isn’t as different as UCLA’s or Utah’s, but look for seven-footer Dallas Walton to get the start for the Buffs tonight in place of Jeriah Horne. The senior from Arvata, Colorado did not even play in the game against the Bruins at Pauley. He’s averaging 7.5 points per game and 3.0 rebounds per game. You’d think that someone as big as Walton could be rebounding more frequently than he is.
The loss of Horne looks to have hurt the Buffs as he was averaging 10.8 ppg and 6.1 rpg when Colorado played UCLA in January. So, Walton is getting half as many rebounds as the guy he replaced.
That said, Colorado did just come off their best game of the season when they beat Southern Cal on Thursday. But, frankly, it shouldn’t matter.
If the Bruins can hold McKinley Wright in relative check, UCLA will win. If they can’t, then it could be another close one.
With the Bruins starting to re-gel as a team, I expect UCLA to win by a bigger margin than they did in Westwood earlier this season.
