Not on point re basketball but the UCLA v BYU women’s soccer game was a complete mess tonight. Not only did ESPN Plus cut the feed before the 20 minute stoppage time and penalties (does ESPN not understand the concept of a knockout game?), but the Bruins lost in penalties, 4-2.
Since the current coach won the natty in 2022 with Amanda Cromwell’s players, the Bruins have the following results in the tourney:
2023 lost in 1st round to UCI
2024 lost in 2nd round to VA Tech
2025 lost in 2nd round to BYU tonight
These results are unacceptable for a program that should regularly make the Sweet 16 every year.
So I get the Select-a-Seat season package, which means during the early season I can grab really low seats to focus on specific things. Today I’m behind the basket on the UCLA side of the court, which means right now I get a real good look at the defense.
I will say, effort is there so far, particularly for Dent. They seemingly put him on the Presbyterian player who’s gonna run off screens all game as a way of challenging him, and he’s doing a good job fighting so far.

Cronin wants to give Dailey as much run at the 3 as possible, which makes sense, but also UCLA’s best lineup might involve shifting him to the 4.
