"Next up is Alabama State. Much like with Bowling Green, it should not be close."
Unable to determine who the most recent 'Bama State opponent was. The first one was Howard. Was that THE Howard U or was it one poor bastard named Howard running all over the field trying to cover the opposing eleven?
And, even more importantly, who was their second opponent again?
So, they just play a single-person FB teams -- Howard and Miles -- kinda like the old Bill & Mary jokes or what the King and his Court used to do in softball?
I kid, of course; never heard of Miles. And was the previous week's victory over THAT Howard University? Pray enlighten me.
Yep, they are good against single male person teams but I don’t think they will do as well against our animal group. Yes, they beat THAT Howard University. I looked at their schedule and we are the only non HCBU team they play.
Thank you for the "eye-test", Dmitri. You are always a good read. I get you on the 'vibe' thing, we can see/sense when our team is clicking and when it isn't. Yes BG wasn't a test predicting anything. Go Bruins!
Great piece as always Dimitri. I totally agree with the analysis, especially that we won’t really know about this team for a few weeks. The thing that blows my mind is how weak the schedule is. It’s hard to say after just one week, but the toughest matches seem to be Utah, Oregon, and SC, and none of them look all that strong. I doubt it will really happen, but there’s an outside chance the Bruins could go 12-0 without being a great team. Even if they’re bad, which is certainly possible I’d guess 7 wins.
One thing not in the piece that I’m worried about is the coverage Defense. There was a few plays where BG had wide open receivers downfield and the Bruins were just fortunate the passes were way off. The special teams play was atrocious. There was a piece on BRO about how Chip hasn’t bothered to recruit a decent kicker even though scholarships were available and this is totally on him, which I agree with. It also got me thinking about the terrible state of recruiting in general under Chip. While there is a place for the portal, relying so much on transfers seems a recipe for disaster. It takes time for players to settle in to a new system and gel. You also never really know if quality candidates will be in the portal in your areas of need. My sense is also that the really top talent isn’t entering the portal as much as lower tier talent that has played well at smaller universities, or higher tier talent that hasn’t panned out and isn’t seeing the field.
So, not a fan of Kelly, but expect him to have a winning season and doubt he goes until next year.

I have concerns about how close that game would have been if the BG players were not dropping like flies due to the heat.
