I totally understand your point about sustainability and agree in principle, but I would not think less of the staff because they aren't able to have the same level of success against teams that are clearly better than the teams they've played so far. The team is still ultimately limited by talent and Ohio State and Indiana are both legitimately good teams. I do not expect to win either of those games, especially because of our defensive talent. The other 4 games will be very interesting. The team is very confident and our skill position players are doing a great job. We just have to take it one game at a time. If you don't have a great defense, the other team can't score if they don't have the ball, and for the last two games, the team has done a great job of limiting the amount of time and possessions for the other team.

Oh, I think they could go 0-6 and I would not feel less of the staff. They're put into a bad position thanks to the people initially in charge, and they're trying to make chicken soup out of chicken shit in many regards.

The more salient point I was trying to untangle was whether this turnaround was because the team got much better or because their opponents were mentally broken/bad. I think it's a combination of the two.

I’d like to add some questions to a hypothetical scenario- let’s say UCLA goes 4-2 on these coming games against really good teams, sprinkle a win against an Indiana or an OSU, what would the outlook and “sustainability” level be at that point? I’m assuming all of the coaches are coaching for their jobs next season. A record like that and a win against one of those two in form teams, how does that bode for “sustainability” long term- and by long term I mean next season.

I’m assuming if UCLA gets brought back to earth in that run of games, many would say “it was expected” meaning it wasn’t sustainable.

I’m going to infer that Dimitri believes this team will run out of steam. I think if they win the next game, these guys might be on to something, but if they loose it will cave in and play out the way it looked like for many of us after the New Mexico game.

This might be most “feel good” 2-4 team I have seen. It feels like as a fan and alumni base we are at the juncture of “we are about to turn the corner” and “this isn’t sustainable.” In the next few weeks these questions and other will be answered by the play of this team. Personally, I am rooting for the team and Jerry N in particular.

I think Dimirtri is just saying it's only been 2 games and we need to see how these last 6 games go to see if it is sustainable. I would be absolutely elated if we went 4-2 and lost to both Indiana and Ohio State. If they had been this team from the start, they could be 10-2 losing only to 2 top 5 teams. one week at a time.

I totally agree with you it is a week at a time. How do you think UCLA will fare off in these next 5-6 games coming up. Do you think they will revert to who they were when they were 0-4 or do you feel they will be the 2-0 team we’ve seen as of late?

Just to give my 2 cents as to what happens, I think they beat Maryland this weekend, and I think off the bye they can get Nebraska at home. Indiana and Ohio State are clear losses, and I think Washington also will be, just because I think Fisch wants to remove any doubt that he should be UCLA's next coach (is this reporting? Who can say). Southern Cal will come down to what Trojan team shows up; in recent years, if the Trojans are checked out at the end of the season, a worse UCLA team can pick them off, but a locked-in Trojans are probably going to prove a point.
