I kind of miss Karl Dorrell at this point. Whatever else you can say about him, he had us one win from the Rose Bowl more than once, of course the win was $C...and he took us to five bowl games which is five more than we've been to lately...

I debated posting that link. I thought it too irreverent for the high quality of discourse on TMB. But really, given the sad state of affairs, I figured I'm only laughing to keep from crying.

As you note, the job of a college football coach is incredibly difficult, and has grown more so in the last few years as the game morphs into a version of professional football. When Jarmond reached out to pull Deshaun back from the Raiders, I thought that perhaps he had the vision that would allow him to pluck the next Lanning or Dillingham…uh, no. As time went on, it became increasingly clear that Foster was way in over his head, but as noted…perhaps even more chilling was the lack of UCLA’s administration to plunge seriously into the new college football waters until they began being attacked by sharks or simply drowning on their own. I’m encouraged by your supposition that Jarmond will not have much say in the search committee; but whomever the committee chooses to pursue will unquestionably have specific demands for commitments by UCLA to support the program in NIL, marketing, coaching and recruiting budgets…and everything else that a serious D1 football program needs to compete. Otherwise…there seems little reason for quality players to come to Westwood, or for fans and alumni to support them. The romantic days of the Gutty Little Bruins are long gone…

I just received the info for the public records request I submitted regarding the number of tickets scanned for the New Mexico game.

25,719 tickets were scanned.

So, while the crowd was pretty small, it was obviously too big to fit into Pauley Pavilion.

How many of those were free tickets for the local grade school kids? I'd guess around 5,000, given that the North end was pretty full.

Thank you again, Dmitri. I hate dumping on coaches who are alums, Larry Farmer comes to mind. We know they love there school but were just out of their league. New Mexico? Just who did we get from them to coach basketball? rubbing our noses in it.
