Would you believe that when I started writing under my own name on BN that I actually did set up an account with my old pseudonym just to squat on it and make sure no one could start impersonating me using my old screen name?
That stadium picture reminds me of a poster that came out my sophomore year in 84. I really wish I could find a copy of it. Somehow, every friend who looked at the poster agreed I was the easiest fan to spot.
I'm a long time reader of Bruins Nation - never commented there. I've been so disappointed with the changes brought about by AB 5. With the issues confronting all of us recently, the news about this site really lifted my spirits. I may not have participated at BN, but I've groused and grumbled with my fellow UCLA fans for years about Guerrero. However, so many people at BN commenting about Alford, etc. felt just like those conversations as we plotted and schemed on how to get rid of some of those people. I'm sure the new site is going to do great, and with the people that are involved, I'm glad I can "hear" the conversations continue.
Honestly, probably not. If it is stuff that is behind paywall somewhere else like BRO, then it'd be pretty disingenuous for us to take their stuff that you have to pay to see and post it here for you to...pay us and see instead.
Also, we're not "journalists" by technical definition so we won't be the ones breaking news as often. That said, I don't think I'd be opposed to creating a subscriber-only chat page once a week or so to discuss any insider info that has come out.
There'll be a post on Friday that will be subscriber-only asking what those people want to see from us going forward. Least we can do there.
To be honest, we haven't quite figured out what the "additional benefits" for paid subscribers are going to be yet.
We weren't even going to have paid subscriptions on the new site yet but, yesterday morning, I came to the realization that it would be best to give people the option to support the site from Day 1 and the failure to do so bordered on malpractice on our part.
But, as they say, membership does have its privileges and that will be the case as soon as we figure out what those privileges will be.
I did have an idea for one of those privileges last night and, while we are NOWHERE close to having details (mostly due to COVID-19), let me just tease it that it could have something to do with a certain away football game at the start of the season. (Think about that time BN planned a trip to an away game.) Now, you've probably got a really good idea about which game that might be (if it happens).
See? I told you that the details of this aren't close yet because of COVID-19.
