"UCLA has their third (technically fourth) defensive coordinator in three years, with D’Anton Lynn arriving from the NFL to take over the defense"
The defense will be the difference maker this year. If the defense is the same (~80th) or worse (god forbid) - we might have a problem making a bowl game.
If the defense is better this year (50th or better). It's going to be a fun season because we fans will not have to clench our butts every time the defense is on the field.
The rapid succession of defensive coordinators only speaks to the ineptitude of the head coach himself. Only if he has a clue himself, we would not witness the rapid turnovers of coordinators in our program.
Really? I guess you missed the memo that Bill McGovern (the DC who replaced Azzinaro) DIED from cancer. Man, the Chip Kelly dude sure is "inept" -- damn, he couldn't predict that his new DC had cancer.
I know .... I know ..... we alums are so demanding, mean and nasty to the extent that even an individual succumbing to cancer has to be pinned on him ! We're bad ! LOL !!!!!!!!! Seriously now and hold on to your angry cuss words, it was indeed an unfortunate episode but other than that, those that left obviously could not cut it.. He is the one that hired them, not you and I.
This past spring, the chancellor could have called the shot to make a coaching change. But based on what other alums told me, he was already mulling, by then, his own retirement which he subsequently informed the UC Board of Regents and decided to focus his time left on other remaining projects. An exhaustive candidate search at this point, technically the AD's domain but under his oversight, apparently is not his cup of tea. The incoming one, whoever he or she is, will now be tasked with the chore unless Kelly somehow rebounds and wins well beyond expectation. This is the reason why we all know the two two year extension is merely a reprieve. The administration simply kicks the can down the road.
My son and I are coming out for the half-time show on the 16th. Will be the first time back at the Rose Bowl since 2007. Interestingly (or maybe not) my youngest daughter and I just took a college tour of Coastal Carolina...I made sure to rep some Bruins gear while on campus! Myrtle Beach is great, btw. Can't wait for next weekend! Go Bruins!
I'm tired of Chip Kelly haters for the sake of hating... I'm all for spirited discussion of the ups, downs, and shortcomings, but the "Fire Chip Kelly Train cuz we don't have a Natty" attitude completely sucks.
The Bruins Haven't played a single fucking game this year and already the vitriol flows.

The entitled mentality of too many Mighty Bruin commenters just makes my head spin.
My fellow bruin fan, we are not Kelly haters. That one brief shining moment at Oregon earned him an NFL coaching stint even but he flamed out quickly. Granted other NCAA coaches, even somebody the caliber of Urban Meyer, have tried and failed, Kelly thus far has yet to replicate his Oregon success at UCLA now that he is into his fourth or fifth year ( don't jump all over me now if I got the the number of years wrong, please ) at UCLA with a lucrative contract and what's more, special arrangement by the athletic department to provide gourmet healthy meals for his players in the name of enhancing performance on the field. We simply think he is not what we think he is. That winning year at Oregon is perhaps a fluke. We alums merely wan the best for our team with the money UCLA pays for his coaching. As we speak, the returns have been less than satisfactory. In sports, especially NCAA and pro games, we compete, first and foremost, to win if possible, especially when so much is at stake financially. This is one main reason UCLA joins Big Ten in the face of the huge deficits sustained in recent years. I am laying out all the facts and I hope your head stops spinning.
Smith is my favorite coach in the conference after Whittingham (due to his track record). If the program had anymore caché, say at the level of UCLA, he'd be talked about much more for the turnaround he is undertaking at that program. It'll be a shame for them to get relegated to G5 after this football renaissance they're undertaking, with Reyser getting expanded too, so I hope they can find someplace to land (won't miss getting taken to the cleaners by their baseball program).
Returning a lot of players and improved their biggest black hole (QB) by a lightyear. Might see some gaudy play-action numbers out of DJU (if I had it my way, especially based on their leaning on and success with the run game last year).
This schedule with last year's offense makes a NY6 bowl.
Putting all my optimism eggs in the defense basket this year just simply due to the dinosaurs getting pushed out of the staff slowly but surely. And it's a pretty great schedule to come in and install your defense with in preparation for next year (of which Lynn, a PSU alum, is familiar with the B1G) and all the attention that'll be thrown at the program.
This is a weird hybrid rebuilding year, due to the influx of transfer talent that is either new or have been with the program to go with the reformation of the offense, and a soft schedule that might lead to some overconfidence or at the very least putting the program in a similar, if not better, record than last year despite all the questions we may get answers to this year.
It really does feel dirty to describe this as a rebuilding year then turning around and saying 10-2 like we're playoff perennial having a down year but this is the type of perfect storm that PR and narrative building are built for. Send me into the Spin Zone.
And with the news coming out today about QB1 for the team, should be interesting to see how many reps Dante gets in the first three games before conference play.

Thank you for the preview!

To me only OSU looks unbeatable and that may change as the season progresses. As far as $C is concerned the jury is still out on Riley imo.

I’m not buying the Oregon State hype. 10-2 this season. This team is good enough to go 12-0.
