Jon Gaines to Arizona with the 20th pick of the 4th round (122 overall) and three more QBs off the board in the later 4th - Jake Haener (Saints) and Stetson Bennett (Rams) back-to-back at 127-128 & Aidan O'Connell to Vegas to end the round... hoping for a good landing spot for DTR

DTR to Cleveland with the 140th overall pick - 6th pick of the 5th round... not the best landing spot given Cleveland's commitment to Watson but gives him time to continue to develop...

Might be a great landing spot if deshaun decides he needs anymore “massages” :)

Not sure where would be a good landing spot by your standard. Nobody was going to draft him looking at him as their QB of the future. He needs 2-3 years to get better. If he gets a shot it’s probably not with Cleveland barring multiple injuries.

Well, somewhere that didn't resign the primary backup (Dobbs) and already has a developmental guy (Mond) would be better, no? Older starter/placeholder with shorter term contract describes a fair number of situations (Rams, Minnesota, Seattle, Washington...) - Haener, Bennett, Hall all were picked into better situations for examples

But he was never going to be the primary backup no matter who drafted him. He and any QB drafted 5th round is going to be third stringer. Stetson Bennett is not going to be the #2 either.

Well, he's literally one of 2 QBs on their roster as of today... which would be a better "landing spot" than being one of 4 on the roster, right?

Of course, they'll likely bring in some disposable veteran rando/duct-tape to be the actual backup by the time the season starts - but even that is really different than the situation DTR was drafted into, no?

I'm reviewing early draft grades and they all are so far high grades (mostly As) for this pick fwiw

Antonio Mafi goes 4 picks after DTR to the Pats with the 144th overall pick...

I don't know how to interpret the Pats picking a kicker before Mafi at 112....

Easy. They think that they, like SF, just solidified a pretty important position for the next 5 years vs just a depth piece.

FWIW on the "state of the program" - or at least the fan base - only 16 total posts (this would be the 17th) - 5 of which were simply "he got drafted" info posts by only 6 different individuals, one of whom is Joe, across 3 threads...

It is NBA playoff season for me. I am not focused on the draft, especially since I want to give ESPN or the SEC as little airtime in my home as I can.
