Welcome to a running late 2020 NFL Draft Round 1 Open Thread. The 2020 NFL Draft kicked off tonight at 5pm PT with Round 1 and continues through Saturday.
Just like last year, there are a lot of UCLA Bruins eligible for this draft. At the top of the list, of course, is UCLA cornerback Darnay Holmes. The list also includes Joshua Kelley, Devin Asiasi, Boss Tagaloa, and JJ Molson.
This year’s draft was supposed to be held in Las Vegas to celebrate the arrival of the NFL and the Raiders, but the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the league to modify their plans. A virtual draft is now planned instead with Commissioner Goodell announcing picks from his New York home and teams making their selections from their homes as well. Cameras have been sent to the homes of 58 prospects to capture their reactions as well.
As usual, ESPN and NFL Network will be combining forces to cover the event over the next three days. ABC will again offer an over-the-air broadcast with a feed that’s different from ESPN’s coverage.
And, again, you can actually listen to draft coverage on satellite radio.
That's important to know, especially for today's first round. Here on the West Coast, the Draft starts at 5pm PT. Many of us here in the Pacific time zone don’t get off work until then (or later) even if you’re working from home. So, if you have Sirius or XM, you can listen to their draft coverage while you’re finishing up.
How to Watch, Listen and Stream Round 1 of the 2020 NFL Draft
Satellite Radio: SiriusXM NFL Radio Ch. 88 & ESPN Radio Ch. 80
Of course, this is the best place to keep tabs on what’s going on with the Draft today.
So, contribute your thoughts below and join your fellow UCLA fans as we wait to see which Bruins will move on to the next level.
Which Bruin will be drafted first? What round will the first one be picked? What are your thoughts on the state of UCLA Football? Add them all in the comments below.
After all, this is your 2020 NFL Draft Round 1 Open Thread.
Go Bruins!!!

Well, it looks like Josh Rosen may be on the move again after the Dolphins have drafted Tua Tagovailoa unless the Dolphins opt to keep him for some reason but, by choosing to draft Tagavailoa, it sends a message that Rosen is not their future QB.
I agree. Dolphins were too stupid to realize what they had and provide him support. Instead Josh ended up on the team with the worst OL 2 years in a row.
I thought Josh had it bad behind the Bruins offensive line. It's hard to believe he has had one for sure (the Cardinals) and maybe two successive downgrades since. Some guys just never get the right opportunity. I hope he finally finds his somewhere soon. The NFL has a short memory, and the ultra high prospects at the start of his senior year are fading fast.
I want to believe in Josh still, and I think that in the right system he could be passable, but at this point I'm kinda out on him. I don't think anyone has had an agenda against him I just think he's consistently underwhelmed everyone. I mean, Kyler took a pretty similar Cardinals offensive line and was massively better so it's not like anyone was going to be bad there.
As a Chargers fan I am still reeling from a miserable first round, and I've found myself on some Oregon sites where they're justifying Justin Herbert's struggles by saying he had 3 OC's in 4 years (or maybe it was 4 in 3 - can't remember specifics) and that sounded very familiar to me. While I believe that can be a hindrance, at a certain point the good quarterbacks figure out a way to be good.
I have a friend who was an offensive lineman for Bosco when Rosen was there and he said a bunch of good things about the guy, but when I asked if he was surprised that Rosen underwhelmed he said, right away, "No - he needs an absolutely perfect system to survive" and I think that's true. If you put him on the Eagles or Saints with creative offensive head coaches, elite offensive lines, and good skill position players, I think he could be fine - maybe like Nick Foles level solid. But at this point I don't see his upside as any higher than that and even if he goes to an average situation like the Chargers (not saying it's a fit anymore, just a team I know well) I still think he'd be pretty rough. And that's a bummer because I was cheering for Josh but after a certain point the benefit of the doubt runs out.
I don't think so. Kyler's offensive line was vastly different than Rosen's. They actually upgraded in RT (Marcus Gilbert from a stellar Steelers line), Pugh was finally healthy, and had a major change in offensive philosophy (deep pass to quick-strike). Still bad but not as bad as it was for Rosen when they had practice squad guys, UDFA's, and other teams practice squad guys thrown in with no chemistry (much like how the Dolphins line was until Week 10 of the season).
Every QB needs at least a decent supporting system, especially when they're developing. Peyton Manning was ass his first year but got better as they got different QB coaches. Tom Brady has had geniuses like Weis, McDaniels, etc. Drew Brees was so terrible, they drafted Rivers later. Mahomes has a bonafide QB guru in Reid.
Considering Marcus Gilbert got injured before playing a single snap for the Cardinals last year, I am calling your knowledge on their offensive lines into question. They improved from the worst offensive line but they were still bottom third of the league for sure.
Good quarterbacks need support systems to be great but they also elevate bad support systems too. I hope Rosen gets another shot but I don't have a whole lot of confidence in him being anything more than a career backup and spot starter.
PFF's worst pass blocking offensive line 2 years in a row. That's just terrible luck. Also with some bad offensive coordinators. He had McCoy/Leftwich who insisted on deep ball passing attacks despite not having the OL to do that. Then he ended up in Miami where they also fired their OC and their leading rusher was Fitzpatrick who had to run for his life every series. I want him to succeed even if it's with....the Patriots.
How come Harry Connick Jr. gets to have all those background singers and instrumentalists in his basement?
Burrows to Bengal at #1, Chase Young to Skins at #2, Lions on the clock

Dolphins are incredibly stupid. If they trade Rosen to say New England, they've lost a fan in me
I’d like to see Josh with the Pats. He needs a stable organization.

I stopped watching the cardinals so you may be right. But you can take your personal shit elsewhere.
