My thought is that the game depends solely on Coach Close coming up with a defense to slow Juju instead of guarding her with a smaller guard who Juju can destroy. Also, Betts being able to pass out of the inevitable double team to an open Bruin. USC will double team Betts and Juju will look to torch a smaller guard. Will Coach Close finally make an adjustment or try the same defense that lost three in a row? Close is the weakest link for the team which has overall, the best talent in ladies basketball. Will she continue the same old system or adjust after three lost games?
I think you're right on - the problem is Juju is just a matchup nightmare. If you put a small fast guard like Jones on her, she's big enough to shoot over her or body her down low. If you go with someone bigger, Juju's quick and shifty enough to drive to the rim. I think the Bruins need to employ a combo of double teams and help defense - and switch it up so she's not sure what's coming. Other teams have forced Juju into mediocre games - let's hope Coach Close has been studying a lot of film.
Agree. And I think that Gottlieb is a far better coach than Close in making game plans and adjustments within a game. Hope Close proves me wrong tonight!
