UCLA Baseball Has Work Cut Out When Suspended Game Resumes Today
The Bruins trail the Auburn Tigers, 9-0, in the bottom of the sixth, needing a win to force another game later today.

Sometimes, the only winning move is not to play. Last night, a lightning storm in Auburn, Alabama prevented the UCLA Bruins from losing to the Auburn Tigers when the game was suspended in the bottom of the sixth with no one on base and one out. UCLA’s Jon Jon Vaughns was about to come to bat.
The fact that the Bruins were playing Auburn at all meant that they took care of business in Game 5 against Florida State.
Last Time Out
UCLA’s day started with a good ol’ fashioned pitchers’ duel between the Bruins and the Florida State Seminoles.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when FSU’s Jaime Ferrer took a pitch from UCLA starter Kelly Austin and put it over the 30-foot high left field wall that’s reminiscent of Fenway Park’s Green Monster, giving FSU a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Kyle Karros led off the inning with a blast over the left field wall as well to knot the game back up, 1-1.
Not wanting to be outdone by Karros, sophomore outfielder Carson Yates won the game for the Bruins with another shot over the wall in left, giving UCLA a 2-1 lead.
With one out and the tying run on second, Alonzo Tredwell struck out back to back Seminoles to finish the game, allowing the Bruins to advance to Game 6 of the Auburn Regional against the Tigers.
Game 6 Reset
So far, things have not gone so well for the Bruins against Auburn in Game 6. The Tigers put up crooked numbers in the first, fourth and sixth innings against UCLA while also adding a breadstick in the fifth on their way to a 9-0 lead.
The fact that the game was suspended could mean that the Bruins will finally get into the Auburn bullpen as it’s doubtful that starter Mason Barnett, who had pitched six scoreless innings so far, will return to face Jon Jon Vaughns when play resumes, and frankly, at this point, anything which disrupts Auburn’s momentum is a good thing.
After all, we learned last weekend at the Pac-12 Tournament that UCLA is certainly capable of having a big inning when they erased a 21-12 deficit to tie the Beavers in the ninth inning.
But even knowing that doesn’t change the fact that the Bruins will have their work cut out for them with just 10 outs left in the suspended game.

Sadly it ends in an 11-4 loss. The Bruins outscored them after the restart, but had too big a hole to get out of. It was an unfortunate ending for the Bruins' season, when they could have (should have?) hosted a regional instead of traveling 3 time zones to play Auburn on their field.
