UCLA Women's Water Polo Heads to Arizona State
The Bruins will play four road games in the next four days as their eight-game road trip.
The UCLA women’s water polo team starts a four-day, four-game road trip today when the Bruins play the Arizona State Sun Devils at 11:30 am PT. UCLA extended their winning streak to three games last Sunday when the Bruins outscored San Jose State, 17-11.
Last Time Out
UCLA actually trailed San Jose State after the first quarter, 4-3, but the Bruins tied it up 6-6 at halftime. The Bruins got a pair of first half goals from both Hannah Palmer and Malia Allen in addition to goals from Lexi Liebowitz and Val Ayala.
UCLA doubled their score in the third quarter when they scored six. Palmer completed her hat trick and then scored a fourth goal later in the quarter while Allen also completed a hat trick in the quarter. Myna Simmons and Ava Johnson each scored as well while Liebowitz picked up her second of the game for the Bruins’ final goal of the quarter. After three, the Bruins led by four, 12-8.
While Liebowitz’s third quarter goal would end up being the game winner, UCLA added five insurance goals in the fourth. Allen scored her fourth to match Palmer and Johnson scored three times for the Bruins to complete a hat trick for the game first and then for the quarter second, making her the third Bruin with four goals for the game. Ayala scored the final goal of the game for UCLA, giving her two for the game. Meanwhile, the Spartans could only add three in the quarter and the Bruins took the game, 17-11.
Arizona State Sun Devils
Arizona State has lost five of their six games against the Big Four teams in collegiate water polo. They lost both games they played against Southern Cal and UC Berkeley while splitting a pair of games against Stanford. Their other loss came against Michigan. Currently, they are on a two-game losing streak after being swept by Berkeley last weekend.
I’m expecting the Bruins to sweep their games today and tomorrow against the Sun Devils. They probably won’t be double-digit wins, but all they need to do is add two games to the left column in the standings.
