On Friday, the UCLA women’s volleyball team won their fifth straight match when they defeated the Colorado Buffaloes in four sets, 25-17, 23-25, 25-19, 25-19. The Bruins will look for their sixth straight this morning when the teams meet again, starting at 10 am PT. While today’s match won’t be televised, it will again be streamed live.

Last Time Out

The Bruins opened their two-match weekend series against the Buffs on Friday and UCLA won the match in four sets. While the Bruins won the first point of the match on a kill be elan McCall, Colorado took the next two points to grab an early 2-1 lead, but a service error by the Buffs tied it right back up again. After CU moved ahead, 4-2, UCLA went on a 5-1 run, giving the Bruins a 7-5 lead. From there, the Buffs were able to tie the set three times, first at 10-10, then at 11-11 and, again, at 12-12. But Colorado couldn’t seize on any of those ties to re-take the lead and, when the Bruins rattled off three consecutive points to take a 15-12 lead, UCLA took the lead for good. In fact, Colorado was unable to score on consecutive points for the rest of the set as the Bruins rolled to a 25-17 win.

The Bruins began the second set by scoring the first four points and they quickly built a 10-3 lead. Yet, that was the point where UCLA started to collapse. The Bruins would not score on consecutive points for the remainder of the second set. While UCLA still lead at 22-18, Colorado scored six consecutive points to take a 24-22 lead. The Bruins fought off set point once before Sterling Parker picked up a kill for the Buffs’ 25th point and CU took this set, 25-23.

While UCLA scored five of the first seven points after the break, the critical point in the third set came with the score tied at 13-13. That was the point when the Bruins went on a 4-0 run to take the lead for good. For the rest of the set, Colorado wasn’t able to get any closer than two points down and UCLA captured the set, 25-19.

The Buffs jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead in the fourth set and they led until the Bruins scored on three consecutive points when the score was 12-10, Buffs. The critical point of the set came when the score was tied, 14-14. That was when UCLA went on a 7-0 run to take a commanding 21-14 lead. From there, the Bruins cruised to a 25-19 win in the set and a 3-1 win for the match.

Today, the Bruins will look to complete the weekend sweep and their sixth consecutive victory. Another Bruin win seems likely.
