#19 UCLA Women's Volleyball Faces the Ducks On the Road
After sweeping UC Berkeley, the Bruins will look to do the same to a good Oregon team this weekend.
The 2-0 UCLA women’s volleyball heads to Eugene, Oregon this weekend for a two-game series against the Ducks. Tonight’s game is at 6pm PT while Sunday’s game is at 1 pm PT. Both games will air on the Pac-12 Networks.
Last Weekend
Last weekend, UCLA started the season on the right foot when they swept the two-game series from UC Berkeley.
On Friday, the Bruins needed four sets to close out the Bears. That was due to the fact that the second set turned into an absolute marathon. After UCLA first set, 25-22, the teams battle their way to a final set score of 39-37 in favor of the Golden Bears. In the six-plus years that I’ve been writing about UCLA Athletics, I don’t ever remember a set score that high.
But the Bruins didn’t let that get them down. They came back after the break and took the third and fourth sets, 25-20 and 25-16, to win the match. Mac May led the Bruins with 20 kills while transfer élan McCall added 16 and freshman Allison Jacobs had 13 in their debuts in powderkeg blue and gold.
Meanwhile on Sunday, UCLA didn’t give the Bears much of a chance to win a set as the Bruins swept the Bears, 25-17, 25-18, 25-19. May led the team in kills again with 11 and was the only Bruin in double figures for the match.
Oregon Ducks
Last weekend, the Ducks split their series with the Washington State Cougars. They dropped the first match, 3-1, and won the second, 3-2. While Oregon isn’t ranked, they did receive 17 votes in this week’s coaches poll. So, they will likely be tough at home.
