UCLA Women's Golf in 15th Place After First Round of NCAA Championships
While the Bruins played well yesterday, so did 14 other teams.

After the first round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships in Scottsdale, Arizona, the UCLA women’s golf team sits in 15th place. That’s due to the fact that, as a team, the Bruins shot a 14-over 302 yesterday, putting them 13 strokes behind Texas, which was first yesterday.
Emma Spitz was UCLA’s best golfer on day one. Spitz shot a par 73, which was good for 5th place. She is just three strokes behind Stanford’s Rachel Heck who shot a 3-under 69. Just four competitors finished the first round under par.
Annabel Wilson wrapped up the day tied for 34th overall with a 2-over 74 and Simar Singh was tied for 87th with a 5-over 77. Yuki Yoshihara finished with a 7-over 79 and was tied for 105th place.
The Bruins are back at it today with an 12:36 pm PT tee time on hole 1. UCLA will need to play better today and tomorrow if they hope to advance to the match play portion of the competition. Only the top eight teams advance to match play. At the same time, the Bruins need to finish the first three rounds in the top 15 to avoid the cut before Monday’s fourth round.
