#8 UCLA Women's Basketball Travels to Utah to Play the Utes
The Bruins put on a clinic on both ends of the court against Washington on Sunday.
This morning, the UCLA women’s basketball team returns to action with a road game against the Utah Utes. Tip-off is set for 10 am PT/11 am MT.
Last Time Out
On Sunday, the Bruins bounced back from their loss on Friday to Washington State by destroying the Washington Huskies, 84-50.
Technically, UCLA didn’t score their 51st point until the third quarter when Charisma Osborne hit a three-pointer, but the reality was that this game was over after Michaela Onyenwere scored the first points of the game on a jumper with 8:52 left in the first.
The Huskies would never even tie the game up after that point and the Bruins spent the rest of the game just building the size of their lead. They put on a defensive clinic in the first half holding Washington to just eight points in each of the first two quarters.
In the second half, UCLA never led by less than 21 points and their biggest lead of the game didn’t occur until Natalie Chou hit a three with 35 seconds left for the final basket of the game.
Four Bruins finished in double figures. Osborne led the team with 21 points and seven rebounds while Onyenwere put up 15 points and also grabbed seven boards. Freshman Emily Bessoir scored 14 points in 17 minutes before fouling out and Chou had 11 points including that final bucket.
Utah Utes
It’s always tough when the Bruins have to head to Utah because they end up playing at an altitude they just aren’t accustomed to. It’s almost like they are fighting two opponents, instead of just one.
But this Utah team just isn’t very good. While they have won three more games than the Huskies, it doesn’t change the fact that this game shouldn’t be in much doubt.
When these teams met back on January 10th, the Bruins crushed the Utes, 92-67, and, altitude aside, I expect a similar result this morning.
