#5 UCLA Women's Basketball Returns Home to Face ASU
The Bruins beat the Cardinal on the road last weekend and were rewarded in the polls.
The UCLA women’s basketball team returns home to face Arizona State tonight after defeating Stanford on the road last Friday, 70-66. Tonight’s tip-off is set for 6 pm PT and the game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
The Bruins are now ranked 5th in this week’s poll heading into tonight’s game.
Last Time Out
Unlike most of their other games this season, UCLA started off a little slow against the Cardinal even though they kept it close. The Bruins never fell behind by more than five points in the first quarter and, in fact, they only trailed by that many for the last 45 seconds of the quarter.
But the second quarter belonged to UCLA. Over the first four minutes of the second quarter, the Bruins chipped away until Michaela Onyenwere tied the game, 27-27 with 6:07 left in the half. A three from Charisma Osborne put UCLA ahead and the team never trailed for the rest of the game.
That doesn’t mean it wasn’t ever in doubt.
While the Bruins led by 11 at one point in the third, Stanford would battle back and finally tied it up at 63-63 with 3:31 left in the game. The game was tied again at 65-65 and 66-66. That’s when Osborne hit the second of two free throws that put UCLA ahead for good.
Arizona State Sun Devils
When the Bruins visited the Sun Devils in December, ASU fought hard before falling by four. So, while UCLA should win easily tonight with this game being in Westwood, there’s still no crowd to give the team a home court advantage. The Sun Devils will certainly be hungry to knock off the 5th-ranked team in the country.
So, while it probably will be a pretty close game, I still expect the Bruins to do what they need to do to win tonight.
