UCLA Women's Basketball Opens 2021 NCAA Tourney Against Wyoming
The two-week layoff should help the Bruins get healthy for a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.
The UCLA women’s basketball team returns to action tonight in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament when they take on the Wyoming Cowgirls at 7 pm. Tonight’s game will air on ESPN.
For the Bruins, the two-week layoff was needed. The Bruins got pretty banged up during the course of the season and UCLA even chose to cancel a couple of games due to not having enough healthy players. Hopefully, the time off has allowed the Bruins to heal.
Wyoming won the Mountain West Tournament to earn an automatic bid to this year’s NCAA Tournament. Overall, the Cowgirls went 8-8 in conference and 14-9 overall.
Unfortunately for Wyoming, they have the misfortune of being seeded against UCLA in the first round as the Pac-12 is a much more competitive conference which fe atures some of the top seeds in this year’s tournament. As if that’s not enough, the Selection Committee kind of gave the Bruins a lower seed than they deserved.
If they hadn’t underseeded UCLA, Wyoming might have gotten to play a more competitive opponent.
Frankly, I’m looking for tonight’s game to be over by the end of the first quarter like so many other UCLA women’s basketball games were this season.
