#8 UCLA Women's Basketball Looks for a Home Sweep
After beating the Oregon Ducks on Friday, the UCLA Bruins will look to complete the weekend sweep against Oregon State.
This afternoon, the UCLA women’s basketball team will look for a weekend sweep of the Oregon schools when they host the Oregon State Beavers. Tip-off is set for 1 pm PT and today’s game will air on ESPN2.
Last Time Out
On Friday, the Bruins hosted the Oregon Ducks and UCLA cruised to a surprisingly easy 83-56 win. The game began with a missed layup by the Ducks’ Te-Hina Paopao, which was Oregon’s best chance to take a lead in the game. Just six seconds later, Natalie Chou hit a three-pointer that put the Bruins ahead for good.
By the end of the first quarter, UCLA had a 17-point lead, 28-11, and they led by 24 at the break, 46-22.
Lauryn Miller’s basket to start the third quarter gave UCLA a 26-point edge, their biggest of the game until that point. While the Ducks were able to cut the lead to 19 by the end of the third, the game was over after Charisma Osborne the game-winning free throw to put the Bruins up 57-34 with 3:19 left in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter saw UCLA take a 28-point lead following a pair of free throws from Lindsay Cordero with 4:44 to go. The Ducks would only be able to close the lead by a point down the final stretch and the Bruins went on to win by a score of 83-56.
Five Bruins scored in double figures. Michaela Onyenwere led all scorers with 17 points and Miller was right behind with 16. Chou and Osborne added 14 and 13, respectively while Chantel Horvat picked up 10 points off the bench in just 17 minutes.
Oregon State Beavers
Today, the Bruins host the Oregon State Beavers. It’s the first meeting of the year between these teams as their previous game which had been scheduled for Corvallis on New Year’s Day was postponed.
It’s been a bit of a rough season for the Beavers, but they seem to be playing better of late, having won four of their last five. That should make much difference in the outcome of today’s game, however, as long the Bruins come out playing the way they are capable of playing. Of course, the fact that UCLA is the home team should help that. Bruins by 13.
