UCLA Women's Basketball Easily Defeats Wyoming, 69-48
The Bruins will face the Texas Longhorns tomorrow night in the Second Round.
Last night, the UCLA women’s basketball team cruised past the Wyoming Cowgirls, 69-48. This game wasn’t competitive for very long.
Natalie Chou scored the first basket of the game for UCLA on a three-pointer and Wyoming’s Alba Sanchez Ramos responded with a three of her own to tie the game. With 8:58 to go in the first, Lauryn Miller missed a jumper and Michaela Onyenwere grabbed the rebound before being fouled by Jaye Johnson. Onyenwere made both free throws to start a 10-0 run by the Bruins and the rout was on.
Wyoming would not be able to even tie the game back up for the rest of the game. By the end of the first quarter, UCLA led 23-11. The Bruins stretched their lead to 19 points with 2:47 to go in the half, but the Cowgirls were able to trim it back to 14 points at halftime and UCLA led 40-26 at the break.
The Bruins didn’t let up in the second half. In fact, they stretched their lead to 23 points on another three by Chou with 1:02 left in the third and, after three, UCLA held a 61-41 lead.
Neither team scored much in the fourth quarter as both teams only mustered single digits for the quarter. But, even then, UCLA still outscored Wyoming, 8-7, and the Bruins wrapped up a 21-point win to advance to the Second Round, 69-48.
Three Bruins finished in double figures. Onyenwere led all scorers with 25 points while Charisma Osborne picked up a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Natalie Chou also scored 15, primarly because she finished with nine of her 15 points on three-pointers.
UCLA will now head from Austin to San Antonio for their Second Round game against Texas at the Alamodome at 6 pm tomorrow night. Tomorrow’s game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

It’s kind of weird that our bracket for the women’s and men’s have similar teams in their regions. If Texas would have won in the first round, it’d be ucla vs Texas in both 2nd round matchups vs the winner of Alabama and Maryland.
