#2 UCLA Softball Travels to #8 Arizona to Conclude the Regular Season
The Bruins will take on the Wildcats in their final four games of the regular season.
The #2 UCLA Bruins softball team will be playing their final four games of the regular season in Tucson, beginning with tonight’s game at 7:00 pm PT against the Arizona Wildcats. The Bruins are coming off a four-game sweep of the Stanford Cardinal, outscoring their opponent 24-1.
Last Time Out
UCLA did not waste any time scoring last Sunday. Leadoff hitter Aaliyah Jordan began the game for the Bruins with a single up the middle. Briana Perez’s sacrifice bunt moved Jordan to second and, when Rachel Garcia singled to left center, Jordan was able to score. Delanie Wisz followed with a double that UCLA runners on second and third with still just one out. Maya Brady hit an RBI single to right which Garcia scored and Wisz advanced to third. An RBI single by Anna Vines moved the baserunners, scoring Wisz while Brady came home on a Stanford throwing error. After just an inning, the Bruins were already up 4-0.
In the bottom of the third, UCLA would tack on two more runs. Rachel Garcia led off the inning with a walk and Wisz hit a two-run homer to left. Stanford was now down, 6-0, after three.
The bottom of the fourth saw the Bruins put the final nails in Stanford’s coffin. Jenavee Peres led off as a pinch-hitter for Alyssa Garcia and she singled up the middle. Taylor Edwards, then, pinch-ran for Peres. Jordan drew a one-out walked, giving the Bruins runners on first and second. Perez was up next and hit into a fielder’s choice which moved Edwards to third while the Cardinal got Jordan out at second. With runners on first and third and two outs, Garcia helped her own cause again with an RBI single that scored Edwards and moved Perez to second. Wisz singled through the right side to score Perez and put the Bruins up, 8-0.
Megan Faraimo relieved Garcia and sent the Cardinal down in order in the fifth to end the game early with a mercy-rule win. Garcia earned her 12th win of the season while allowing just three hits and striking out two.
#8 Arizona Wildcats
This weekend’s series will be tougher than last weekend. The Wildcats are ranked #8 in the nation and third in the conference behind UCLA and the University of Washington. Arizona is coming off a very tight split with Oregon, losing the first two games by just one run each, but taking games three and four. Tonight’s game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks and livestreamed on the Pac-12 website.
