UCLA Softball Opens WCWS Against Alabama
The Bruins begin the Quest for 124 this morning in Oklahoma City.
It’s been a tale of two seasons for UCLA softball. The Bruins began the season by going 8-6. Since they lost to Florida on March 1, UCLA has 34-4. So, they’ve lost fewer games in their last 38 games than they did in their first 14 games, and they’ve won their last 13 games.
That would seem to indicate how this team has matured as the season went on, and it means that the Bruins come into the Women’s College World Series as one of the hottest teams still playing.
Indeed, one of the teams which handed UCLA one of those early losses was the Georgia Bulldogs. When the Bruins plays Georgia back on February 16 in Clearwater, Florida, UCLA lost that game 7-2, but thanks to a little home cookin’ last weekend, the Bruins bounced back to sweep the Dawgs out of the Super Regional.
UCLA used the run rule to drop the Bulldogs last Thursday, 8-0. Then, they followed up on Friday with a 6-1 win to clinch their WCWS berth.
