UCLA Softball Looks for Series Sweep over Stanford
The Bruins swept yesterday's doubleheader and will now look for the series sweep this afternoon.
After winning the first three games of this weekend’s series against Stanford, the UCLA softball team will look to break out the brooms this afternoon by sweeping the series from the Cardinal. The Bruins took both games of yesterday’s doubleheader, 9-0 and 3-1. The first pitch for today’s game is scheduled for 2 pm PT and the game will be broadcast on Pac-12 Networks.
Last Time Out
Megan Faraimo threw a one-hitter yesterday in game one as the Bruins beat Stanford, 9-0 in a mercy-rule-shortened five inning game.
In the bottom of the first, UCLA got a pair of runners on with walks to Aaliyah Jordan and Rachel Garcia and they loaded the bases when Maya Brady was hit by a pitch. With nowhere to put another runner, Stanford starter Regan Krause walked Anna Vines, scoring Jordan from third.
Taylor Edwards led off the second inning with a double and she scored on an error.
The Bruins kept rolling in the third. Brady and Vines each singled with one out while Edwards hit a two-out double that scored both runners. Kelli Godin added an RBI single down the left field line which scored Edwards and the Bruins took a 5-0 lead after three.
UCLA’s biggest inning of the game came in the fifth. With two outs, Jordan drew a walk. Briana Perez followed and hit a two-run homer over the right center field wall. With the Bruins now up 7-0, they just needed one more run to end this game early. Rachel Garcia kept the rally going with a walk and Seneca Curo came in to pinch run for her. That brought Delanie Wisz to the dish. With a full count, she put the ball over the center field fence to win the game, 9-0.
Stanford finally scored a run in the second inning of game two. With the bases loaded, two outs and Rachel Garcia in the circle for UCLA, she hit a batter with a pitch, scoring a run for the Cardinal. But, that’s all they would get all game.
Alyssa Garcia led off the third with a single and Grace Guzman pinch-ran for her. Jordan added a one-out single to put two runners on for the Bruins. Guzman was able to tag and take third on a flyball by Perez and a throwing error. Rachel Garcia helped her own cause with an RBI single to tie the game, 1-1, after three.
In the bottom of the fifth, Garcia did it again. With two outs, Perez doubled to left center, setting the stage for Garcia. She came to the plate and promptly put the first pitch over the right field fence for a two-run homer, putting UCLA up 3-1 which was all they would need in this one
