#3 UCLA Softball Hosts UCSD in Midweek Matinee
The Bruins feasted on San Jose State's pitching on Sunday when UCLA won, 14-1.
This afternoon, the UCLA softball team will host the UC San Diego Tritons at 2 pm PT. On Sunday, the Bruins crushed San Jose State in a mercy rule shortened five-inning game, 14-0. Today’s game won’t be broadcast, but it will be live streamed.
Last Time Out
On Sunday, the Bruins won their fourth straight when they beat the Spartans, 14-0. UCLA scored in the bottom of the first when Briana Perez reached on a bunt single, stole second and scored on an RBI single by Aaliyah Jordan.
The Bruins added four more in the second. Anna Vines began the inning with a single through the right side of the infield. She scored on an RBI double by freshman Thessa Malau’ulu. Kinsley Washington also doubled, scoring Malau’ulu. Then, Washington scored on a sacrifice fly by Bubba Nickles. Perez capped the rally with a solo homer to right to give UCLA a 5-0 lead.
In the third, Delanie Wisz led off with a double through the left side of the infield. After Alana Snow pinch-ran for Wisz, Malau’ulu hit a two-out double to score her. Washington followed with an RBI single to center that scored Malau’ulu as UCLA took a 7-0 lead.
UCLA began the fourth with a walk by Nickles. After Perez was hit by a pitch, Jordan doubled to left center, scoring both Nickles and Perez. While Perez would prove to be the game-ending run, the Bruins kept going. Wisz walked and Maya Brady cleared the bases with a three-run homer. Rachel Garcia doubled to center and came home on a two-run homer by Washington to give UCLA a 14-0 lead heading into the fifth.
Garcia struck out the side in the fifth to end the game.
UC San Diego Tritons
After opening the season with a win over Grand Canyon University, the Tritons have dropped their last three games to GCU and Utah State. Honestly, that’s about all you really need know about today’s game.
If today’s game isn’t a five-inning mercy-rule win, it will only be because the Bruins haven’t scored enough runs, not because UCSD has beaten up on UCLA’s pitching.
