#3 UCLA Softball Hosts Doubleheader Against UCSB
The Bruins beat the UCSD Tritons on Tuesday, 7-1, for their fifth straight win.
Today, the UCLA Bruins Softball team will host the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in an afternoon doubleheader. On Tuesday, UCLA took down UC San Diego in true Bruin fashion, holding the Tritons to just one run. The first pitch for game one this afternoon is scheduled for 2 pm PT and both games will be live streamed.
Last Time Out
Tuesday afternoon, sophomore pitcher Megan Faraimo walked three and had one unearned run in the 7-1 victory. UCLA had ten hits to UCSD’s three and the Bruins scored big from the start.
In the bottom of the first, UCLA was able to score two. Bubba Nickles led off with a double and Aaliyah Jordan and Rachel Garcia both walked to load the bases. Delanie Wisz hit into a fielder’s choice which saw Nickles get forced out at home for the second out of the inning. Maya Brady followed with the bases still loaded and she singled down the right field line to score them both to make the score 2-0.
Kinsley Washington led off the second inning with a double to right center and Kelli Godin followed with a single and a stolen base. Washington and Godin both scored when Nickles hit a two-RBI single to center to increase UCLA’s lead to 4-0. Briana Perez doubled to give the Bruins runners on second and third with still no outs. Nickles scored UCLA’s final run of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Jordan.
The Tritons scored their only run in the fourth on an error.
In the fifth, UCLA added two more. Garcia walked again. Taylor Edwards pinch ran for her and stole second right away. Wisz hit an RBI single to right center to score Edwards and Grace Guzman came in to run for Wisz. Guzman stole second and advanced to third on a single by Brady. With still no outs, Washington grounded out to first but Guzman scored on the play.
Faraimo was able to hold the Tritons off in the sixth even though she gave up a single. Then, in the seventh, she struck out the side to end the game and give UCLA a 7-1 win.
UC Santa Barbara Gauchos
The Gauchos are 3-10 overall with wins over UCSD, Stanford, and Utah Valley most recently on Tuesday. Junior Emily Schuttish is their top pitcher with four complete games under her belt and a 1.08 ERA.
