UCLA Softball Faces Florida in WCWS Elimination Game
The Bruins beat Northwestern, 6-1, on Friday to advance to today's game against the Gators.
While the UCLA Baseball team is facing the prospect of playing two games this afternoon to stave off elimination in the NCAA Baseball Tournament, the #5 seed UCLA softball team will face the #14 Florida Gators this afternoon in an elimination game at the Women’s College World Series. First pitch for today’s game is scheduled for Noon PT and the game will be broadcast on ABC.
Last Time Out
On Friday, the Bruins avoided elimination by beating the Northwestern Wildcats, 6-1.
The Bruin offense started the game off with a walk to Kinsley Washington to lead off the game and Briana Perez moved her to second with a sacrifice bunt. A single to left by Delanie Wisz scored Washington and the Bruins took the lead, 1-0.
It stayed that way until the top of the fourth when the bottom third of the Bruins order loaded the bases. Savannah Pola singled to lead off the inning. Following a sacrifice by Anna Vines that moved Pola to second, Megan Faraimo walked and Kelly Godin singled, bringing Washington to the dish with the bases loaded.
She hit a fly ball to left that was dropped by the Wildcats’ Angela Zedak, scoring Pola. While UCLA would only score the one run in the inning, the Bruins’ 2-0 lead would have been enough to win.
Northwestern scored in the bottom of the fifth to cut the Bruin lead to 2-1, but insurance runs in the eighth and ninth, combined with scoreless innings from Faraimo resulted in a 6-1 Bruin win.
Florida Gators
The Gators come into today’s game having beaten Oregon State, 7-1, before losing to Oklahoma State yesterday, 2-0.
On paper, UCLA should win this game, but there’s a reason they play the games.
The Bruins need to get their bats moving early and follow that with some solid pitching from Faraimo and/or Holly Azevedo. It’s the same formula that the team has used consistently over the years.
In other words, UCLA needs to take care of business to advance to the semifinals tomorrow against top-seeded Oklahoma with a berth in the WCWS Finals on the line

We’re up 4-0 on Florida, but Oklahoma is a big wall if we win. I hope we can get revenge for last season. Go Bruins!
Bruins up 6-0. Need to 2 run to get the mercy rule win.
