Can’t we just enjoy the win right now?

He's not getting fired after 7 wins and beating USC.

Not fired but let go! He’s gotta go man! no other way about it, done with his ego, his arrogance, his lack of respect for Bruin reporters, fans and school.

Uh, no. It’s about wins and losses. If we were 10-1, his ego wouldn’t bother you one but. What we need is a change on defense.

Agreed. I hope he gets rid of AZZ.

BigBruinfan, yes, you're right, Chip Kelly is pompous ass. Realistically, he's not getting canned though, IMO. Had he lost to SC yesterday, then he would have been on the hot seat.

Someone opened a can of whoop ass. If we hadn’t beaten SC convincingly this year, we should have dropped football.

How many of us are ancient Alumni? I'm one. Let the current crop of students enjoy or reject what they see.

This was a great victory, and I'm extremely proud of and happy for our seniors! Having said that, one game does not a season make; Chip and Azz need to go out with the old year, and we need to bring in fresh blood with the new.

Good luck with that. Chip is likely getting extended.

The coaching of the Bruin defense has been pathetic, but thank goodness it isn't as horrible as U$C's. The final score could have been even more lopsided. U$C has had a lot of embarassing records broken this season, so they truly suck for a change. Congrats on the victory and good luck in whatever bowl game they're going to be playing in. Go Bruins!

I know it’s a win against SC, but the Chip has sailed in regards to optimism and and hope for the future. This guy doesn’t have the energy, and flare to coach in LA. I’ve heard of talks of an extension? That would do it for me. Even with a winning record and a win against SC I am over Chip.

Exactly, we beat teams that were below average. That’s nothing to be excited about, especially having majority of his players returning on both sides of the ball, including his 4th year QB. Beyond that many have noticed his demeanor while dealing with the press. He just comes across as arrogant, too comfortable in his position, lacking fire.

He moved the needle, as he went over .500 for the first time but not far enough for me.

Another thing, we are not recruiting well on the defensive side of the ball. We lack the elite LBs, and defensive line men. I remember at one point we were LB U, I mean elite. This again highlights the lack of recruiting, and development of players. This guy has to go and his replacement needs to bring a type of energy that consumes the room, it’s badly needed.

Who would you hire? It’s bound to be a busy hiring offseason. USC, LSU and UW are already looking for new coaches with a thin list of candidates. The likelihood of landing Dave Aranda or Luke Fickell is zero. Also, let’s look at things quantitatively. The complaint that Chip doesn’t care is ridiculous to me. So does the comments regarding his attitude with the press. The numbers are what matters and the numbers aren’t good but there is some improvement, but the defense is very poor. We need a defensive coordinator. Chip’s offense is very good but it’s paired to a poor defense. Hopefully, Jarmond can “persuade” Kelly that changes need to be made. If Chip refuses, then he needs to go. An Azzinaro defense will never win squat.

This is almost exactly how I feel.

Ultimately, Kelly is a high level OC who got Peter Principled into a head coaching position where his significant limitations have become apparent. Our offense has generally been very good this year and DTR has gone from a wildly inconsistent and raw QB to a mildly inconsistent but really good college QB. There has been steady and decent growth on the offensive side of the ball during Chip's tenure. That's his niche and he deserves credit for that.

On the other side of the ball, the defense has been an major failure over 4 years and continues to have ongoing systemic flaws in schemes and preparation, no matter which personnel are on the field. We see it every week. Neutral observers and TV personnel discover it anew each week. But we all come to the same conclusion: It's not the players. It's Azzinaro and his system, compounded by his stubbornness - or just plain ignorance - that doesn't fix it.

This year, the Bruins have averaged 36 points and 398 yds of offense per game. Despite this, U.C.L.A. has no shot at winning the Pac-12 South. This year U.C.L.A. has only beaten teams with a losing record but has lost to every team with a winning record. The offense is doing enough. The defense, i.e., Azzinaro, is not.

If Kelly wants to act like a Head Coach and upgrade his defense, and that begins with a new DC, then I am willing to see how another year with him goes. If he continues to let this team stumble and underachieve because he doesn't know defense or simply refuses to address the obvious problem, then he is not the right man to run a D-1 college football program.

Your move, Coach Kelly...

I recall too many head-scratchingly stupid offensive play calls that killed drives, many examples of poor clock management, and too many "cute" plays that didn't use his personnel correctly (we have two ground n pound monsters, and he tries to finesse a 4th and 2). So yeah, not happy with our offense these last four years. Yes, he's arrogant, but what pissed me off is that he doesn't have the chops to back that arrogance up! He's arrogant but brings nothing to base his arrogance on (unless you count games that were over ten years ago). -_- As for player development, I can only think of DTR as developing under him, and he was bound to develop if only because he played so little before college!

I'm always rooting for the players, but with regards to the current coaching staff, I certainly hope the AD doesn't offer any contract extension(s) to anybody. Nearing the end of Year 4 at UCLA, Chip Kelly's record so far is 17-25 (15-18 in Pac12), and as you pointed out, achieving a winning record (in a weak conference too) by beating only subpar teams this year isn't something to be thrilled about. But I'm guessing we may get stuck with the current coaching staff for yet another mediocre season, especially if the Bruins beat Cal and then win their bowl game.

It's either fired or extended for Chip. He coached a lopsided victory against SC and has a chance to go 8-4 with a victory against Cal. I don't like the guy, but I doubt he gets fired.
