#7 UCLA Men's Volleyball Travels Across Town to Face Trojans
The Bruins fell to #7 in this week's poll after losing to Southern Cal at home on Saturday.
The UCLA men’s volleyball team returns to action tonight with another match against crosstown rival Southern Cal. Action from the Galen Center begins at 5 pm PT and the match will be live streamed.
Last Time Out
When UCLA hosted the Trojans on Saturday, the first two sets went longer than planned. Southern Cal took an earlier 10-5 lead in the first set, but the Bruins whittled away and eventually tied it at 18-18. With the Trojans ahead 22-21, UCLA came back and scored twice to take a 23-22 lead, but Southern Cal grabbed the next two to force a set point. UCLA fought it off by scoring the next two points and earning a set point of their own. The teams went back and forth with neither side able to get the two-point lead needed to win the set until, finally, with Southern Cal up 29-28 the Trojans scored to win the set, 30-28.
The second set was almost identical. Southern Cal led 8-3 early, but the Bruins kept whittling away at that lead again. This time, though, they didn’t catch the Trojans until UCLA was facing a set point, 24-21. The Bruins roared back to score three points and tie the set, 24-24. UCLA even took a small lead and were leading 30-29 when Southern Cal scored on three consecutive points to take the set.
After the break, the Bruins trailed early again, 7-5. But they used a 4-0 run to take a 9-7 lead and they never looked back. UCLA went on to win this set, 25-19.
The fourth set was another tight one that required extra points, or more correctly, an extra point. That’s because, after 48 points, the set was tied 24-24. Unfortunately for the Bruins, the Trojans took the next two points to set up tonight’s rematch.
