UCLA Men's Volleyball Looks for Stanford Sweep
The Bruins beat the Cardinal last night, 3-1, for their second straight win.
Last night, the UCLA men’s volleyball team defeated the Stanford Cardinal, 23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-21 for the team’s second straight win. Tonight’s match begins at 7:00 pm PT and will be live streamed.
Last Time Out
Last night, Stanford scored first on on a UCLA attack error by Ethan Champlin. The teams then alternated the next 11 points and, soon, it was tied, 6-6. The Bruins broke the pattern with a service ace as they took their first lead, 7-6. It was at this point that Stanford jumped ahead on a 5-1 run, taking an 11-8 lead. UCLA closed the gap to just a point at 12-11. While the Bruins would manage to finally tie it again at 15-15, that would be the last tie of the set and the Cardinal went on to win the set, 25-23.
In the second set, Stanford was only able to score on consecutive points once. When the Bruins were up 10-5, the Cardinal finally accomplished that and closed the gap to 10-7. The rest of the set belonged to the Bruins, who went on a 7-2 run and took a 17-9 lead. From there, UCLA cruised to a 25-15 win in this set.
After the teams split the first four points in the third set, the rest of the set looked like the second set as the Cardinal couldn’t score on consecutive points for the remainder of the set. UCLA again cruised to another easy win in this set, 25-13.
The fourth set began with Stanford scoring three of the first four points. UCLA narrowed the gap to just a point at 3-2, but then the Cardinal went on a 5-1 run to take an 8-3 lead. With Stanford still ahead 12-8, the Bruins went on a 4-0 run to tie it up, 12-12. The scoring went back and forth but it was still tied as late as 18-18. UCLA went on a quick 4-0 run to take the lead for good and they went on to win the set, 25-21, and the match, 3-1.
My outlook for tonight is more of the same except I’m thinking the Bruins will manage a sweep tonight.
