#7 UCLA Men's Volleyball Sweeps Concordia, Looks for Another Tonight
The Bruins swept the Eagles on Thursday and will look to do so again when the teams meet tonight.
This evening, the UCLA men’s volleyball team is in Irvine to play the second of three straight matches against the Concordia Eagles at 7:30 pm PT. Tonight’s match is not televised, but Concordia will live stream the match.
Last Time Out
On Thursday night, the Bruins hosted the Eagles and UCLA swept Concordia, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16, for their third win in a row.
In the first set, Concordia led early after scoring the first point of the match. The teams traded points and, soon, it was tied 3-3. Concordia then scored a pair of consecutive points, but the Bruins responded with two points of their own. Those two points turned out to be the start of a 7-1 run for the Bruins which put them up, 10-6. A 4-1 run by the Eagles closed the gap to just a point. That was the first of three times Concordia closed the gap to just a point, but the Eagles weren’t able to ever tie the set back up. In fact, after the Bruins scored three consecutive points to make it 16-12, the Eagles would never get closer than two points and UCLA went on to win easily, 25-22.
Concordia started well again in the second set. They scored the first two points and, soon, led 4-2. A 5-0 run by the Bruins gave UCLA a 7-4 lead. The Eagles weren’t able to score consecutive points again until the Bruins had a 21-14 lead. That’s when Concordia scored on four of the next five points, but it was too little, too late as UCLA scored three of the next four to take the second set.
UCLA scored first in the third set, but Concordia quickly took the lead by scoring the next two. It was the only lead they would have in this set, even though they kept it tight early, resulting in a 6-6 tie after 12 points. At that point, the Bruins went on a 5-1 run. After the Eagles scored to make it 11-8, UCLA went on a 9-2 run to double up Concordia, 20-10. While Concordia made a late 4-1 run, UCLA wrapped up the set and the match by scoring four of the next six points and the Bruins took the third set, 25-16.
Tonight, the Bruins will look for another sweep of the Eagles as they head to Irvine for the middle match of a three consecutive matches against Concordia.
