UCLA Men's Soccer: UCLA in Corvallis to Take on #13 Beavers
Oregon State is a perfect 4-0-0 and looks to be the Bruins' toughest test so far this season.
This afternoon, the UCLA men’s soccer team (1-1-1) faces off against the #13 Oregon State Beavers (4-0-0) in Corvallis, with a 1 pm PT kickoff. The Bruins drew SDSU, 1-1, in their first Pac-12 matchup, while OSU is undefeated and untied and beat the heralded Washington Huskies on the road in their Pac-12 opener. Today’s match will be a very tough test for the Bruins.
Last Time Out
In their first conference game, the Bruins faced a rebuilding Aztec team that they beat twice last season. UCLA was unable to secure the win at home, only earning a 1-1 draw. It was a disappointing result for the Bruins in what, on paper, appeared to be their easiest conference game.
UCLA took the lead in the 73rd minute on an Ollie de Vissar goal, but San Diego State equalized in the 78th minute. Neither team could find the game winner. The Aztecs, however, looked the better team, outshooting UCLA 15-8, 4 to 2 on frame.
Oregon State Beavers
The Beavers (4-0-0) are ranked #13 for a reason. They have only allowed one goal on the season, versus UW, in a game they won 2-1. OSU has scored 11 goals, with six coming from Gloire Amanda, who has scored at least one goal in all four of the Beavers’ games. UCLA will need to shut him down.
The Bruins will also need to find some goals. OSU ‘keeper Adrian Fernandez has only had to make five saves on the season, which is a testament to the strength of the Oregon State back line.
Outlook
I do not feel good about this game. It appears to me to be one of the toughest on UCLA’s schedule. The Bruins are still coming together with lots of new parts, and the Beavers are humming along. My prediction: 2-0 Beavers. Hope I am incorrect and UCLA pulls off the upset.

OSU dominated possession and the ball was in UCLA's half mostly through ten minutes, but the Bruins found a great long ball, Grayson Doody cheested it down, and poked it into the back of the net! 1-0 Bruins! Cheeky past and a great finish!
Well, crap. The Bruins let that one get away. First, the Bruins only recorded one shot on goal the entire the game. Not great, but we knew OSU had a solid backline, only allowing 5 shots on goal all season thru four games.
But UCLA did itself no favors otherwise. The Beavers equalized in the 74th minute on a free kick, and then in the 78th minute Luke Bone received his second yellow card, the resulting red card, and was sent off. The Bruins were unable to see the game out with 10 players, conceding the game winner in the 85th minute on a long shot from outside the box that UCLA keeper Garces didn't appear to see quickly, reacting too late to the ball.
2-1 loss. It is just not happening for this squad right now.
