UCLA Football Recruiting: Bruins Flip 4-Star DE Quintin Somerville
The Bruins gained another surprise signing when Somerville flipped from Michigan this morning.
UCLA has flipped a commitment from Michigan as four-star DE Quintin Somerville announce that he will be headed to Westwood instead of Ann Arbor.
In an article on 247Sports.com by Blair Angulo, Somerville cited the uncertainty of the coaching staff at Michigan and the persistance of the UCLA staff including Johnny Nansen as the reasons for the change. Somerville said:
The persistence from UCLA throughout the whole process was big as well and I’m super excited to be a Bruin. My relationship with coach Johnny Nansen has been great and he’s been calling me every morning while I’m making breakfast, just making sure I knew how much they wanted me. We’d talk about football and everything in life, we built a great relationship. They really showed love and that’s what I needed to pull the trigger.
They like me at either a 5- or 3-technique, just depending on how I develop physically. They don’t really talk much about me as an outside guy, so I know that my hand will be on the ground no matter what. Another big thing for me was the direction of the program. When you look on the roster and see all the young guys they have, adding to that is special. Knowing we can bring some glory back to UCLA is incredible.
According to his Hudl.com profile, Somerville is 6’3” and weighs 238 pounds. His junior season highlights show that he is a guy who is capable of getting into the backfield and disrupting the opposing offense. The video starts off by listing his junior season stats which include 75 tackles, 29 TFLs and nine sacks and the video footage backs that up. He looks like a guy who will fit right in to UCLA’s improving defense.
Welcome to Westwood, Quintin!
