UCLA Football Recruiting: 4-Star ATH Devin Kirkwood Signs with Bruins After All
After recently decommitting from UCLA, the Serra Gardena recruit has signed with the Bruins.
For months, four-star ATH Devin Kirkwood was the top recruit in UCLA’s 2021 recruiting class but, nine days ago, Kirkwood backed off that commitment. At the time, he wanted to re-open his recruitment in order to “make the best decision” for his future.
When a recruit re-opens their recruitment so close to the start of the Early Signing Period, the school he (or she) had been committed to isn’t usually able to sign the recruit.
Devin Kirkwood, however, is different.
Tonight, Devin Kirkwood is a Bruin.
That’s because, several hours ago, he submitted his National Letter of Intent to UCLA and, in so doing, Kirkwood made himself the cherry on top of a better than expected first day of the Early Signing Period for the Bruins.
Kirkwood explained his choice to Greg Biggins of 247Sports.com:
UCLA is home for me and where I always wanted to be. I have a great comfort level there and after thinking everything over, it just made the most sense and I felt really good about it.
The biggest thing was relationships. I have a great relationship with the staff, Ethan Young, coach Norwood and I like Chip Kelly a lot too. I think I can come in and play early and make an impact and that's what I'm looking to do….
After I had a chance to re-evaluate everyone, UCLA was the place for me and where I knew I belonged.
It’s been said that choosing a college is a 40-year decision, not a 4-year decision.
It’s nice to see that, after taking the time to re-evaluate his decision, Kirkwood came to the same conclusion the second time.
Welcome (Back) to Westwood, Devin!
Go Bruins!!!
