UCLA Football Recruiting: WR AJ Jones Commits to the Bruins
The three-star wide receiver from Colony HS in Ontario, CA committed to the Bruins on Easter Sunday.
The 2022 UCLA football recruiting class has added AJ Jones to the group after the three-star receiver from Colony High School in Ontario, California committed to the Bruins on Easter.
It’s the first recruit new receivers coach Jerry Neuheisel has brought in.
Jones’ Hudl profile lists him at 6’5” tall and weighing 180 pounds. Jones chose UCLA over several West Coast schools along with a few Ivy League colleges. He had received offers from Arizona State, Fresno State, San Diego State, Columbia, Princeton and Yale among other schools.
According to 247Sports’ Greg Biggins, it didn’t take long for Jones to commit to UCLA. Biggins writes that the Bruins “offered Jones in early March and immediately jumped to the top of his list.”
Biggins also quotes Jones:
I loved the opportunities UCLA presented, not just in football but academically as well,. Over the last month since they offered, I've built a really good relationship with coach Neuheisel and I have a really good comfort level with him and the school.
So, it seems that the combination of athletics and academics is what made this an easy decision for Jones.
Because of the topsy-turvy world that is high school sports under COVID-19, the most recent video highlights are from Jones’ sophomore season. It looks like he may have also played a little QB as well as a few plays show him taking snaps out of what appears to be a shotgun-style formation. On the plays where Jones is catching the ball, he seems to be able to blow past competitors or catch the short pass. Overall, it’s a nice film reel for a wide receiver and it seems that Jones has some potential to be a playmaker in Westwood.
Welcome to Westwood, AJ!
