Though the latest in sports jurisprudence has a lawsuit filed against the UC Regents because Berkeley's now-former softball coach had an "inappropriate relationship" with an unnamed player. Here's an article from Front Office Sports on this lawsuit:
At least, UC Berkeley will be spending their Calimony on paying legal bills and the eventual settlement of this case than their actual athletic department!

Trying to temper my early expectations though. Cal will be interesting - it looks like a coin toss as to who might win, but I’ll be glued to the screen rooting for UCLA.
I am so excited to get this season under way. Maybe I have what could be considered "Coach Cig fever." He has done VERY well at Indiana, but he didn't take JMU to the CFP, like Coach Chesney did. When I look at our schedule I only see 2 games that are very likely not winnable, Oregon and Michigan, but every other one I consider winnable. I'm not saying we will go 10-2, but I do not agree with most people's 5, 6, or 7 wins.
To be fair to Cignetti, JMU was ineligible for the CFP while he was the head coach, as he was the one that brought them up from the FCS level. In his last year at JMU the team went 11-1 in the regular season, with their one loss coming to App State in OT.
Don't forget, though, that Cignetti took a lot of his players with him to Indiana. So, Chesney had to rebuild the JMU roster after those transfers left for Bloomington.
This is why I've long argued that a good coach will retool the roster when he goes to a new school.
62 transfers for this year's UCLA team says a lot. Yes, a lot of them are coming from JMU but a lot came from elsewhere, too.
When someone shows you who they are, believe them. Coach Chesney has shown us who he is since he was hired. I believe him and I believe in him!
I don't much about Cal's QB, but the Cal faithful seem to think he's the next (fill in the blank). Is he really that good? Are we in for another 3rd and long or 3rd and VERY LONG and Cal converts?
It seems like those 3rd and longs have killed us since the Josh Rosen era.
Husband is a Cal alum and we have season tickets. JKS is very popular up here, but there are varying trains of thought - one being he is the next big thing and the sky is the limit, like they are going to the national championship, another being he is the best QB they have had in while but he will bounce after this year like Mendoza, and yet another being he is just okay (especially after multiple picks at last year's Stanford game. True confession I actually left the game which I have never done before. It was that painful to watch.). A lot of fans are pointing to the fact Lupoi's first order of business was retaining him which he did so they are giving Lupoi lots of flowers. Another point they hang on is how bad Cal was last year and JKS still played a lot of great games. In my very basic knowledge, he has a great arm but isn't very mobile, and Stanford proved if you make him uncomfortable, he makes mistakes. Not a lot of Xs and Os but that is what watching internet videos is for!
I have such a soft spot for DTR. I really grew to love the guy plus we had the Las Vegas connection. Your description of him is quite accurate. DTR has a way bigger personality than JKS, and I said above JKS is not mobile and would never even dream to do a hurdle jump over another player. DTR definitely had some flash even though it probably wasn't the safest play at times.
I think a lot is going to hinge on whether or rebuilt DL and LB corps can take advantage of UCB's rather mid and not really reinforced OL - which would be a vast improvement on last year's near total lack of pressure on opposing QBs... JKS could make it a long night if we can't pressure him but with Sahir West and Friends I'm hoping we can make him as uncomfortable as UCB's Office of Legal Counsel these days!

I have taken a modest approach to this season. My expectation is simple: Bowl eligibility.
6-6 doubles last year's win total. That's significant improvement for Year 1.
Now, I'm so bullish on Chesney that I think that bar might be set pretty low. I think we could win as many as 8 or 9 games this season.
But I will gladly take 6-6 with bigger things expected in Year 2. If we get to 7, 8, 9 or more, that's gravy and I will be elated.

Kinda reminiscent of DTR - strong arm, very mobile but can piss you off because of all the INTs.
